David Chesky - Jazz in the New Harmonic (Chesky 2013)
Inspired by Gunther Schuller’s improvisatory convergence of classical music and jazz, David Chesky’s Jazz in the New Harmonic brings a new perspective to Schuller’s idea of Third Stream. Chesky’s stylistic approach explores the depths of dissonance and rhythm alike. A phenomenal lineup joins Chesky on piano: Peter Washington on bass, Billy Drummond on drums, Javon Jackson on tenor, and Jeremy Pelt on trumpet. The subliminal blending of instruments forms a satisfying color to the dissonant tones. Sensibly constructed, Jazz in the New Harmonic is full of inciting ideas and satisfyingly soulful.
This album was recorded in Binarual+ for both speaker and 3D headphone playback and has EXTREME dynamics, so please set your playback levels carefully.
