ROMANIA: Jazz Ecumenica Symphonic Jazz Poem by composer and pianist Florin Raducanu

Jazz Ecumenica Symphonic Jazz Poem by composer and pianist Florin Raducanu

The symphonic jazz poem Jazz Ecumenica, the work of Romanian composer and jazz pianist Florin Raducanu marks an important landscape in the world of fusion of jazz and classical music
Over the years, Florin Raducanu was the initiator of other notable fusion projects he has presented on stage in his native country and abroad, many of his performances have been recorded and released on CD.
His latest creation incorporates elements of European classical music and jazz while allowing a generous space to innovative and virtuosic improvisations. Structured in seven parts, the concept encompasses the pianist-composer’s original vision, such an endeavor being one of a kind in the music world.
Part I is a rhapsody concert called “Mapamond Pictures”, impregnated with elements of Romanian ethos and main stream jazz. Part II, an unique creation of symphonic jazz  is a “Passacaglia” imagined in the line of the baroque composers. Another outstanding and unique moment is the Jazz Fugue, composed and orchestrated as a baroque fugue.
The world premiere took place in Minsk, Belarus where Florin Raducanu collaborated with Belorussian State Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Alexander Anisimov. The performance was included in the UNESCO International Jazz Day events and  was aired on the National State Television On April 30th.
Florin Raducanu’s project proposal both as a composer and pianist is addressed to any philharmonic, the audience having the opportunity to enjoy an original creation where the European classical music harmoniously blends with jazz in a rare and compelling piece of work.

Dates available: April 1-25, Summer 2016
Listen "Aziza Dance"

On October 30, Blue Note Records will release GAÏA, the remarkable rock-infused new album from acclaimed Beninese guitarist Lionel Loueke. On GAÏA, Loueke reunited with his longtime trio featuring bassist Massimo Biolcati and drummer Ferenc Nemeth for a session produced by GRAMMY-winning producer and Blue Note president Don Was that was recorded live in the studio with an intimate audience in attendance.“I always wanted to record this trio live” says Loueke of the sessions, which were captured at Sear Sound in New York City. “We were all in the same room with a small audience, no headphones, no isolation and no overdubs of course. It has a real live feel. It was a very special event.” The musical dialogue on GAÏA pertains to the nature of the Earth and man's effect on it, an urgent message at a time when the warning signs of global warming have become undeniable. In Greek mythology, Gaïa is the personification of the Earth, the mother goddess who birthed the planet and the entire universe. "She would be angry,” Loueke states bluntly. “We have not taken good care of her child.”

ITALY: Caterina Palazzi, doublebass player

PRESS RELEASE:

Five years after her Sudoku Killer band’s debut, doublebass player and composer Caterina Palazzi is back with new album "Infanticide" (released byAuand Records), and a 50-date tour in Italy, Norway, and the U.S.

This provocative, unconventional work recalls such a milestone as "Incesticide". An intentionally strong title inspired by Nirvana, both musically and emotionally. In Caterina Palazzi's own words, Infanticide «is meant as a virtual murder of the childhood vision of the world, with the good guys as winners and the bad guys as surrenders.» It's the loss of pure, playful ingenuity, that makes room for a troubled, often bitter maturity. All this reflects into the album deeply electric, breath-taking tracks.
Compared to her previous work with the same band, this album seems to be set in a North European soundscape, and the quartet members' background arises in a delightful mix of jazz, psychedelic rock and experimental music.
As a sort of inner tradition, the second work title anticipates what’s next: the third album will focus on the bad guys in Disney movies. An eternal "flash forward", started with "Sudoku Killer" – with both its literature-inspired characters and a title that anticipated this second album, the first work was inspired by the popular Japanese logic game, whose conceptual rules can be easily found in "Infanticide."
Caterina Palazzi has filled all of her five tracks (four of them being made of three parts) with electronic effects – notably Giacomo Ancillotto's distorted guitars and Antonio Raia's sax experimental approach, besides the leader's own bass lines and Maurizio Chiavaro's drumming. Skillfully handling her jazz sensibility, as well as post-rock, noise and film music, Caterina Palazzi's gift as an (award-winning) composer is more and more evident, and totally aimed at finding new music paths.

Reviews on:

           DAILY FACT
"Infanticide is perhaps the most modern, uncanny, night, north-European, open and sexy we can expect from the Italian jazz today. It's not jazz, not rock, but a small Opera razor sharp. A short feature music for restless souls "
ROCKERILLA:
"Infanticide is exciting, a tangible tension and threatening (exemplary Futoshiki), the five long pieces run off that is a pleasure, about the safety of the quartet and a strong idea that makes the blood work and visionary"
DISTORTION:
"Listening is scary and wonderful. Sounds seventies intersect with noises that go far beyond the presente. It's darkness and light research, despair and search of hope. A band that is going to face, leading a tour world. A band that is a credit to Italian music "
CLASSIX:
"Sensational synthesis of free jazz, prog, noise rock, psychedelia and atmospheres soundtrack 70s, Infanticide (all instrumental) overflowing with ideas and, between outbursts abrasive and melodic moments to catch his breath, is a candidate as of now among the best work year "
RUMORE (NOISE)
"aggressive, sweet, desperate. A hard disk but able to give much"
MUSICA JAZZ
"Finally in the Italian appears a hard angry and anxious"
ALL ABOUT JAZZ
"Five violent traces where jazz lives with psychedelia, post-rock, the noise artists and experimental music"

Cuban singer Doris Lavin was hailed by Cuban trumpeter Lázaro Herrera as one of the timeless Soneras to sing salsa, putting her in such vaulted company as Celia Cruz y La Lupe. After establishing herself as an in-demand singer in Cuba, Lavin relocated to Italy in 1996, which did nothing to lessen her busy touring schedule. She has performed with Guillermo Rubalcaba, Félix Valoy, Patato Valdés, and the Conjunto Folklorico Naciónal De Cuba.

ITALY: MUNICIPALE BALCANICA nu world music

MUNICIPALE BALCANICA
nu world music

When they fire up on all cylinders, they still provide exhilarating excitement (fRoots)
Municipale Balcanica is more than a known entity in European jazz scene (International Jazzfestival Saalfelden)
Yes, this band did have the courage to record Hava nagila in such a way that it gets high above all the thousands of other versions I heard during the past 35 years. (FolkWorld)
it is already considered one of the emerging giants of the world-fusion (The Baltic Sea Cultural Centre)

The warmth of the traditional italian "banda" heated up by the typical frenzy of Balkan attitude. Municipale Balcanica is groove, speed, energy and joyful, electric madness. Klezmer, rock, jazz and tradition are melted in an unpredictable, poetic view of a powerful, colourfull future sound. Horns and guitars, drums and Mediterranean percussions design a wider frontier for the new world fusion. Let’s sing along, dance, scream, or close eyes and smile...

AROUND JAZZ MUSIC PRODUCTIONS 3 NEW TRIOS FOR FRANCO D'ANDREA new projects on tour 2014/2015

Franco D’Andrea is one of the most innovative and prolific pianists of today, one of the great figures of Italian jazz. D’Andrea, winner of the “Prix du Musicien Européen de l’Académie du Jazz de France” (2010) and of many “Top Jazz” awards.
Franco D'Andrea will take part in 3 trios this coming year, pushing himself even further, moving instruments around and transforming sounds.

FRANCO D'ANDREA "ELECTRIC TREE" con DJ ROCCA e ANDREA AYASSOT

Franco D'Andrea, DJ Rocca and Andrea Ayassot, three of the most important figures in the jazz and electronics scene in Italy, collaborate in this new and innovative project. United in an unexpected synergy, Franco D'Andrea, DJ Rocca and Andrea Ayassot give life to a project that combines passions from afar, different generations and often distant cultural references, thanks to a single, shared curiosity about the infinite language of music. Franco D'Andrea is one of the best contemporary pianists and is a perfect example of the excellent work that Italian jazz has produced over the past 50 years. He stands out for the over two hundred songs that he has composed, the distinctive academic awards that he has received, the hundreds of collaborations with musicians from all over the world that he has taken part in, and the master classes that he has held in several schools and academies, as well as for the many groups that he has fired up with his boundless talent, highlighted once again in this unexpected project that, in addition to the historic producer from Emilia, involves none other than the great Andrea Ayassot on sax. listen to the live performance

FRANCO D'ANDREA "PIANO TRIO" con ALDO MELLA e ZENO DE ROSSI

With this trio Franco D'Andrea embarks on a new interplay of original compositions returning to the formula of the piano trio after ten years. The balance, tone and dialogues change with a general center of gravity that moves towards the piano to create sounds that are not identifiable as three separate instruments. The aim, therefore, is to broaden the sound spectrum, making the listener perceive a wider range of tone. To do this, Franco D'Andrea called upon extraordinary, innovative musicians, as he always does: Aldo Mella on double bass and Zeno De Rossi on drums, for the first time in a trio with Franco but previously in his quartet and sextet, playing a key role in this new group. While De Rossi works more with tone and rhythm, Mella uses the double bass, and sometimes the bow, to focus on the sound effects of the trio. It is in D'Andrea's nature to move the instruments around in order to change the effects and the roles of the musicians. The absence of wind instruments, present in the other groups, again reveals Franco D'Andrea's desire to challenge himself. Throwing himself into a new white space with Mella and De Rossi and playing with the transformation of the instruments, Franco D'Andrea draws new lines and creates original soundscapes.

FRANCO D'ANDREA "TRADITIONS TODAY" con MAURO "OTTO" OTTOLINI e DANIELE D'AGARO

An atypical trio with D'Andrea on the piano together with Daniele D'Agaro on the clarinet and Mauro Ottolini on the trombone. “The band was the fundamental reference point for traditional jazz, which is the music that fascinated me in my early days,” says Franco D'Andrea. “Louis Armstrong's 'Hot Five' band included trumpet, clarinet, trombone, piano and drums or banjo. This combination of instruments, which for me is absolutely magical, still has a lot to offer today's jazz music. This trio contains the essence of the sound of a band in which the characteristic instruments are undoubtedly the clarinet, representing the reeds, and the trombone, for brass. In this context the piano can play a variety of roles thanks to its typical orchestrality. The music develops from riffs, polyrhythms, improvised counterpoints, contemporary abstractions and sometimes sounds inspired by the Ellingtonian 'jungle style.'”

"It is difficult not to be drawn to Eme (M)'s music, which can be described as a fusion of her strongest influences - R & B, Jazz, experimental Pop plus the more Cuban folkloric, son and filin styles. The fact that she looks absolutely gorgeous doesn't hurt" Cuba Absolutely

JazzWorldQuest Proposals Section Update: TERRE DI MEZZO (Italian Jazz)

TERRE DI MEZZO (Italian Jazz)

Emiliano Rodriguez (saxophones) - Luciano Biondini (accordion)
Roberto Bartoli (doublebass) - Ettore Fioravanti (drums)

‘Terre di Mezzo’s players come from different backgrounds (classic, jazz, ethno music, etc.).
The mixture of many styles characterizes the music of the group. It embraces different atmospheres from the mediterranean area, up to the jazz roots. The band often plays with Gianluigi Trovesi. This collaboration allows the band to extend its musical research, which is a combination of popular styles with jazz language.

Since 1995 ‘Terre di Mezzo’ has played in several festivals worldwide (Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, England, Lebanon, Tunisia, Etiopia, etc..) gathering many appreciations both among the critics and the audiences. It is considered as one of the most original italian band. Critics say about its music: “ ….a persisting surprise, an incredible journey through unexplored continents, a mixture of many colours …..“.
Besides there are two other projects. The first, “Dedicated to Pasolini”, is based on music and poetry, together with the actor Francesco Lanza. The second is based on the original music of ‘Terre di Mezzo’, arranged for the group and the city band of Imola (Italy) by the arranger Stefano Nanni.
“Terre di Mezzo” has released the CDs ‘Terre di Mezzo’ (Philology), ‘Faro’ (Wide Sound) and the new “Danza Gialla” (Dodicilune). This CD, published in 2012, is already reckoned as one of the most interesting recording of the year. It’s recently been selected by Jazzit magazine as one of “Jazzit 100 Greatest Jazz Album” (Jazzit Awards 2012).

JazzWorldQuest - Proposals Section Update: E Bairav Ensemble (Italy)

Musician website: www.ebairavensemble.com

"E Bairàv Ensemble" for more than ten years has devoted its work to the study of the musical traditions of the Balkan countries, also researched by Bartok and Kodaly since the beginning of the last century, when they contributed significantly to the birth of ethnomusicology.
This ensemble has taken part to numerous festivals everywhere, gaining enthusiatic appreciations among critics and audiences. It has released two recordings: "Pulcherrima Ignota - Tribute to the gypsy music of the world" and "The Music of the Wind" with the orchestra "I Virtuosi Italiani".
Now “E Bairàv Ensemble" is presenting a new project dedicated to Béla Bartók, based on unpublished and original compositions inspired by his musical thought. Paying tribute to a giant of music through the composition could turn out to be a tall order. But it’s with this awarness in mind that "E Bairàv Ensemble" has approached this project. The musicians have been inspired both by his pioneering ability to merge the western classic music and the popular styles, and by his ability in re-elaborating the melodical and rhythmical elements within complex musical forms.

The title of the project is "# 1 Cratere Bartok”, the name comes from a depression on the surface of the planet Mercury, so called in honor of the great composer. It represents (for us) a sort of ‘virtual crater in constant boiling’, where popular elements, classic forms, traditions of Eastern Europe, European and American contemporary influences, composition and improvisation continuously combine, blend, change, and transform themselves, creating an heterogeneous sound mixture, which is characterized by a surprising and solid consistency.

”E Bairav ensemble” has just released a CD / DVD dedicated to this new project, published by the prestigious label Limenmusic (Warner / Chappell). "# 1 Cratere Bartok " has been presented in world premiere at “Teatro alla Scala”, in Milan.

Fabrizio Meloni is the first clarinet soloist at “La Scala” Theatre
Orchestra since 1984. He has worked with world famous conductors and many prestigious players as B. Canino, A. Lonquich, H. Schiff, F. Gulda, E. Gruberova, Hagen Quartet, M.W.Chung, P. Moll, Fine Arts Quartett, etc. Emiliano Rodriguez has collaborated with prestigious orchestras as La Scala Theatre Orchestra, Opera Theatre Rome, San Carlo Theatre Naples and jazz players as G. Trovesi, P. Fresu, E. Rava, P. Favre, H Bullock, etc. Roberto Bartoli has been on the jazz scene since 1975. He played with M. Urbani, B. Berg, M Stern, P. Fresu S.Grossman, , F. D'Andrea, G. Trovesi, etc. Massimiliano Rocchetta, pianist and arranger, has collaborated with B. Brookmeyer, M. Biondi, F. Bosso, M. Tamburini, B. Tommaso.

The idea comes from a recent experience and musical contamination experienced by the artist in New York who played with American jazz musicians was inspired by a new style of music to Jazz, a freestyle and improvised and without patterns.
