JazzWorldQuest - Proposals Section Update: E Bairav Ensemble (Italy)

Musician website: www.ebairavensemble.com

"E Bairàv Ensemble" for more than ten years has devoted its work to the study of the musical traditions of the Balkan countries, also researched by Bartok and Kodaly since the beginning of the last century, when they contributed significantly to the birth of ethnomusicology.
This ensemble has taken part to numerous festivals everywhere, gaining enthusiatic appreciations among critics and audiences. It has released two recordings: "Pulcherrima Ignota - Tribute to the gypsy music of the world" and "The Music of the Wind" with the orchestra "I Virtuosi Italiani".
Now “E Bairàv Ensemble" is presenting a new project dedicated to Béla Bartók, based on unpublished and original compositions inspired by his musical thought. Paying tribute to a giant of music through the composition could turn out to be a tall order. But it’s with this awarness in mind that "E Bairàv Ensemble" has approached this project. The musicians have been inspired both by his pioneering ability to merge the western classic music and the popular styles, and by his ability in re-elaborating the melodical and rhythmical elements within complex musical forms.

The title of the project is "# 1 Cratere Bartok”, the name comes from a depression on the surface of the planet Mercury, so called in honor of the great composer. It represents (for us) a sort of ‘virtual crater in constant boiling’, where popular elements, classic forms, traditions of Eastern Europe, European and American contemporary influences, composition and improvisation continuously combine, blend, change, and transform themselves, creating an heterogeneous sound mixture, which is characterized by a surprising and solid consistency.

”E Bairav ensemble” has just released a CD / DVD dedicated to this new project, published by the prestigious label Limenmusic (Warner / Chappell). "# 1 Cratere Bartok " has been presented in world premiere at “Teatro alla Scala”, in Milan.
