The Free Jazz Crossover - Pandit Pravin Godkhindi - Live in Concert
Calcutta, 17th August, 2011 (WBRi/OOBE): A compilation of Flute, Tabla, Vocal, Keyboard, Drum and Bass Guitar Ensemble Concert featuring Pandit Pravin Godkhindi will be held on Sunday, 21st August 2011 from 7.30 pm onwards at Max Muller Bhavan, Calcutta.
Pandit Pravin Godkhindi started playing the flute at the age of three, with his father Pt Venkatesh Godkhindi, as his first Guru. His quest for knowledge brought him to his Guru, Vidwan Anoor Ananth Krishna Sharma who instructs him in deeper aspects of Laya and Layakaari. Pravin is a composer, a vocalist, an actor, a Tabla artiste and a harmonium player apart from what he is best at - The Bansuri. Sonorous blowing, control over the breath, elaborations of Raga with its aesthetic appeal, extraordinary and skilful rendition of Layakaari are characteristic of his recitals. He has ably balanced traditional and creative music, with Western classical, Jazz and Carnatic classical influences. He has toured USA, Canada, Spain, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Singapore, and Portugal for his performances. He has also performed with the Jazz band “Silk”, involving Shankar Mahadevan, Shivamani and Louis Banks.

On Tabla: Arif Khan is one of the youngest amongst the renowned Tabla players of the country. At this age his incredible dexterity, richness, superb tonal quality and maturity surprise any listener or connoisseur of music. He is the great-grandson of late Ustad Masit Khan, grandson of late Ustad Karamatullah Khan, and son of Ustad Sabir Khan, the most celebrated Tabla maestros in the history of Classical Music.
On Vocals: Ameen Khan started learning Indian classical rhythm from his father Ustad Sabir Khan at a very young age. He is currently learning Indian Classical Vocal Music from Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan of the Kirana Gharana. He has performed at numerous concerts and fusion events accompanying legends like Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Grammy winner) and Pt Tarun Bhattacharya.
On Keyboard: Pradyumna Singh Manot has learnt major forms of music like Jazz, Western Classical and Indian Classical. However, in performance, improvisation and composition his love for jazz is above all. He has won numerous awards and prizes including the Governor's Trophy twice at the Calcutta School of Music and the 'Telegraph School Award for Outstanding Talent in Music' in 2003.
