Peter B. Robinson
Peter B. Robinson is a pianist, composer, and performer. As the house pianist at the prestigious Quill Lounge (in the Jefferson Hotel) in downtown Washington, DC for the past 10 years, Peter is one of the busier pianists on the planet. That’s where we first heard him.
Peter received an endorsement from Jazz DJ Tim Masters, WPFW 89.3 FM, Washington, DC (May 28, 2015): "Washington, DC is a city full of landmarks and institutions. There are the monuments, the museums, the halls of Congress, and of course, the White House. And then...there's Peter Robinson...who has been thrilling audiences with his pianistic abilities for several decades now. If you've had a chance to hear him in person, then you know exactly what I mean. If you haven't, then you hold in your hands the best possible alternative... for now. "Originally" first came to my attention many moons ago, but I'm thrilled that Blue Truffle Music has now chosen this stellar work as a featured recording. Listen to it, then get yourself to DC to hear Peter B. Robinson in person." Tim Masters Host/Producer, Jazz Masters WPFW 89.3 FMIn a review of “Originally", Steven Croley states that “…Its melodic statements are as fresh as they are memorable. Originally, indeed. Highly recommended.” Peter has also been featured in various articles, including the Washingtonian magazine’s January 2013 article entitled “DC’s Piano Man.” No visit to downtown DC is complete without a visit to the Quill lounge to hear why Peter continues to captivate audiences with his nightly performances. Some musicians tour the world to get their music out. Peter didn’t want to tour. Remembering from his school days the phrase that “All roads lead to Rome,” he moved to Washington, DC, and he’s made his living playing piano there since 1982. In 1988, Peter self-produced “Originally,” a song-cycle of 17 original songs, all instrumental, where Peter is joined by 10 top-notch DC musicians. The instrumentation is daring and eclectic, including oboe, cello and bassoon, as well as jazz percussion and both stand-up and electric bass, with Peter on keyboards and also alto sax. Two other jazz saxophonists also contribute, along with sitar and tabla. Until now, the only people who know about “Originally” are those who have bought a copy from Peter when he’s performing in DC. When we at Blue Truffle heard “Originally” we knew it deserved our attention: it should be heard.
