UK: Gwilym, Joe Locke and Hourglass

Joe Locke and Gwilym Simcock

Ambleside Days 30 Aug - 2nd Sep

Gwilym will be appearing every evening at the wonderful and intimate Ambleside Days Festival again this year.  Hosted by the extraordinary Derek Hook, who has promoted jazz in Ambleside for many years, Ambleside Days was conceived last year as a tribute to the great pianist John Taylor. It was such a success that Derek decided to continue the festival for a second year.  Three of the linchpins of the festival are Gwilym, guitarist Mike Walker and vibes player Joe Locke who alongside many other great musicians will be playing at the festival again this year.  This is a rare opportunity to see many great musicians in a friendly intimate setting in one of the UK's most spectacular locations.  Artists include: Tim Garland, Paul McCandless, Jason Rebello, Nikki Iles, Claire Martin, Asaf Sirkis, Yuri Goloubev, Alyn Cosker Darryl Hall, John Helliwell, Mark Lockheart and Johannes Berauer's Hourglass with Thomas Gould, Martin Berauer and Bernhard Schimpelsberger alongside Mike and Gwilym.

There are still some tickets available.  Details of the whole programme can be found at
www.amblesidedays.co.uk

Joe Locke and Gwilym Simcock will also be appearing at King's Place in London on 5th September as part of a double bill with Johannes Berauer's Hourglass which also features Gwilym

JOHANNES BERAUER'S HOURGLASS

Following on from Ambleside Days Johannes Berauer's Hourglass will be on tour. This is a brand new project featuring Gwilym Simcock, Mike Walker guitar, Thomas Gould violin, Martin Berauer electric bass and Bernhard Schimpelsberger on percussion and konnakol.

Johannes Berauer is one of the most productive and diverse young composers in Austria. He navigates effortlessly through musical styles such as classical avant-garde, jazz and world music. He was recently orchestral arranger and musical director for Oud master Anouar Brahem on his last ECM release “Souvenance”. With Indian Sarod virtuoso Soumik Datta he co-composed the music for the silent movie project “King of Ghosts” originally for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, then the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. An album of this music performed by the City of London Sinfonia has just been released by Shakespeare’s Globe.
“Johannes manages to connect 21st Century innovation with Jazz music to great success. I see a long and productive musical life for him — very, very gifted.”  – Bob Brookmeyer
