(1) LAILA BIALI'S NEW ALBUM & JIM SCHMIDT'S NEW GOLD PADS:
Here is a demo of Jim Schmidt's gold flute pads which I recently had installed on my vintage Wm. S. Haynes flute. (Mike Filice is the tech who did the work for me here in Toronto.)
Although this demo is doesn't illustrate "before and after" results, I can testify that the effect of these pads on the performance of the instrument is utterly remarkable...I still can't get over them!...
What is perhaps easier to grasp about this clip is the tune I am improvising over which is the opening track of Laila Biali’s brand new eponymous album. The tune is called, "Got To Love" and, although this is a very casual clip, people have responded to it favourably (which is likely because of the groove which is Laila’s, of course, rather than on account of the gold pads, the effect of which is difficult to convey).
In any case, I hope you hear something that you like!
(2) "SECOND LINE" GROOVE - PLAYED ON A RED PLASTIC FLUTE:
Here is another demo clip. This consists of me improvising over a "second line" (New Orleans) groove with a red plastic flute (which is actually a Tocco flute, made by Geoffrey Guo). The tune is called, "C’mon Second Line", by Jon Cleary and it's from his 1989 album, Alligator Lips & Fried Rice (...which is a great album, an unmitigated New Orleans romp!...)
