Award winning soprano saxophonist/composer Jane Ira Bloom presents “Wild Lines,” her new work for jazz quartet and spoken word, inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson. Bloom’s reimagining of Dickinson was ignited when she learned that the poet was a pianist and improviser, reaffirming Bloom’s intuitive connection to the jazz-like quality of Dickinson’s writing. Join us for a collaboration across time between two pioneering women artists - one a 19th century visionary poet, the other a 21st century jazz musician. Poetry recitation from actor Deborah Rush will echo and intermingle with music performed by Bloom’s quartet featuring jazz artists Dawn Clement (piano), Mark Helias (bass), and Bobby Previte (drums). “Wild Lines” first premiered in concert at the poet’s home in Amherst, MA then came to the Kennedy Center and premiered in New York City at the NYPL for the Performing Arts @ Lincoln Center in October 2016. It was made possible by Chamber Music America’s 2015 New Jazz Works Program funded through the generosity of the Doris Duke Foundation.
