Michael Abene’s bio reads like the history of 20th century American music while he continues bringing his enormous contributions into the 21st century as Arranger, Conductor and Pianist. His youthful post for the Maynard Ferguson Jazz Orchestra at the age of 18 as Pianist and Arranger catapulted him into the world of large ensembles where he continues to excel to this day.

Michael has worked with such artists as: Liza Minnelli, Patti Austin, Randy Brecker, Maceo Parker, Eddie Daniels, Tom Harrell, Paquito D’Rivera, Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, Judi Silvano, Fay Claasson, New York Voices and Joe Lovano, with whom he collaborated on the Grammy nominated CD “Symphonica” and released on Blue Note Records.

Mr. Abene has been Musical Director and Arranger of Cologne, Germany’s world-reknown WDR Big Band for the past 10 years, the Associate Music Director of the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, Associate Professor of Jazz Composition at Manhattan School of Music in New York City and is presently Professor of Ensemble Conducting at KUG Jazz Institute in Graz, Austria.

Mr. Abene is also an accomplished and swinging pianist as is evidenced on this recording. For more, visit www.michaelabene.com

PRESS QUOTES:

…peerless improvisations…memorable lyrics…
Tom Cunniffe, Jazzhistoryonline.com

Silvano has a steady steam of ideas…all her tunes deserve lyrics that would permit them to catch on as future standards. This is an intriguing set.
Scott Yanow, Downbeat

Her songs are exultant…joyous…exhilarating…swirling…finesse…
Christopher Loudon, JazzTimes

Like an exotic butterfly, Judi Silvano’s voice soars with the melodic lines., and the movement of her voice itself is a fascinating dance. Her talent is part of the beauty she describes in “Our World”. Leonid Auskern, Jazz-square Russia, jazzquad.ru

Judi Silvano’s MY DANCE is festive, bluesy, impressionistic, postbop and pop-ish, featuring all originals. Silvano shows her talents as a lyricist and her expressive scatting moves into Brazilian territory reminiscent of Flora Purim or Tania Maria while “It’s So Amazing” reminds one of Carole King’s pen. My Dance is a consistently pleasant surprise from this veteran singer. Alex Henderson, New York City Jazz Record, March 2015

Judi Silvano sings lines like pearly gossamer, making sure each note counts; as if she were inventing a new language. So life altering is this album that it is hard to imagine where Judi Silvano will take her artistry next.          Raul da Gama, Jazzdagama.com
