Pianist Cor Bakker brings a jazz album with own compositions

Pianist Cor Bakker brings a jazz album with own compositions

Jazz is the passion of Cor Bakker. For this CD he composed his own work, whereby he introduces his very own style which resulted in ‘Elettra Due’

To escape from the hectic life of his television-show with Paul de Leeuw and his theatre shows with Karin Bloemen and Brigitte Kaandorp, Cor Bakker travelled to an idyllic spot in Italy. As a recluse he was all alone in this studio with only him, the piano and pieces of paper to write on. After a few days there were nine fresh compositions and five existing compostions to record. Bass player Clemens van der Feen and drummer Hans van Oosterhout arrived for the recordings, the very first real jazz trio of Cor Bakker for a cd recording!

Elettra Due
‘Elettra’ is the Italian word for spark, the spark that Cor Bakker caught in the studio with his passion for jazz. This new trio with a great rythm section gave Cor Bakker so much freedom in his creativity. He enjoyed every second to play with them. Because this is the second album of Cor Bakker, ‘Due‘ the Italian word for second, is added.

Cor Bakker (1961) started playing piano at age 11. As a child he was inspired by Louis van Dijk, who was then already a famous pianist. Eventually it was Louis van Dijk who encouraged Cor to further develop his musical talent at the conservatory. In 1984 Cor Bakker graduated cum laude from Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with a degree in piano and jazz. He then continued his studies in Los Angeles with the American pianist, composer and arranger Clare Fischer (1928). Today this former teacher remains Cor's greatest musical inspiration. The artwork of Elettra Due is a wink to Clare Fischer’s LP ‘First Time Out’ from 1961.

His career is characterised by diversity: there are few musicians as versatile as Cor Bakker. His original studies at the conservatory were in jazz and now Cor seems to be embracing this 'old flame' more and more. Cor had long dreamed of recording an album with uniquely his own compositions. Moreover, he wanted to record it, for him, in the ideal circumstances. He was very curious if it would make an audible difference to the music! In 2008 he recorded Elettra and now 5 years later, it’s time for the second album Elettra Due.

Next monday the symbolic first copy will be handed out by Louis van Dijk, during the concert show Cor Bakker receives... Louis van Dijk in DeLaMar theater in Amsterdam. If you would like to come to the show, order your tickets here.
