"Liberty Ship"

A new Quartet formed in sept. 2012 with pianist Aki Rissanen, drummer Olavi Louhivuori and bassisst Antti Lötjönen navigates the deep waters of free jazz & contemporary music. Their expression includes brisky storms of avant garde jazz combined with today´s contemporary new music sounds. without any "stylistic" limitations. In the big sound of Liberty Ship, the collectivity and the spontaneity of its artists unites their music into a one big symphonic sea of improvisation and freedom.

quotes & reviews:

...Pietila clearly shows why his prolific talent has his work revered with the masters of their craft. "Karhea" is a landmark release for one of the finest saxophone player that I have had the exception to hear. E.g. the tune Lightnings Surprise” is a master class in the art of tenor sax. With the exception of Ivo Perelman, Esa Pietilä is now hitting his creative genius.

Esa is truly one of the finest musicians that I have had the pleasure to work with. His honest, open approach is from the heart and makes our dialogue such a beautiful exchange! - Harvey Sorgen
