NETHERLANDS: THE WILLEM BREUKER KOLLEKTIEF Says Goodbye with HAPPY END

November 5 thru December 17 2012
THE WILLEM BREUKER KOLLEKTIEF
Says Goodbye with HAPPY END
A musical spectacle with Loes Luca and Peter Bolhuis
This autumn brings together the Willem Breuker Kollektief with Loes Luca and Peter Bolhuis for their latest musical theatre spectacle. Under the title Happy End, the orchestra offers a selection from the oeuvre of the deceased composer and bandleader Willem Breuker.

The essence of the Kollektief is reflected in a range of distinctive pieces that Breuker composed from the 1960s until 2010. The pieces are connected by nine mini-operas played and sung by Loes Luca and Peter Bolhuis. Bernard Hunnekink wrote this music to texts by Vera Beths, Hans Dulfer, Leonard Frank, Freek de Jonge and Loes Luca. The stage design consists of movie clips the filmmaker Pieter Verhoeff selected, in which Willem Breuker has the leading role. The direction is in the hands of Matthijs Rümke, who, in 2011, the Kollektief called on for Bertolt Brecht's Mahagonny.
Final production
Happy End is the final production of the 37-year-old Willem Breuker Kollektief.
As of January 1, 2013 the orchestra disbands. Thus ends an era of unusual and infectious music-theatrical expression that the orchestra under Breuker's leadership has characterized for years on end.
"People Music" was permeated with Breuker typical sounds, based on jazz, improvised music, and contemporary music. Willem Breuker was one of the most important internationally operating 'architects' of the Dutch ensemble culture.
Last Concert
Apart from the last concert of Happy End, the Kollektief plays some regular concerts in the Netherlands. The final concert will take place in late December at The Bimhuis, Amsterdam.
