Abeat’s second CD by Alessio Menconi in which he shows his great artistic, musical maturity and ability as a composer. The CD includes some original songs and some popular standards such as “Romeo and Giulietta” by Nino Rota, “O scioco” by Bruno Lauzi and also a song by the Beatles called “The Full of the Hill”. He revisits these songs with expressive depth and in an unusual way. The rhythmic section (Fioravanti on double bass and Bagnoli on drums) is one of the most propelling and that works bestl together on the Italian jazz scene. Not many guitar players can play some jazz standards without running the risk of being banal or less personal. Alessio Menconi definitely has to be considered one of the most brilliant European guitarists. This record is great not only due to its higher rank of technical ability, but also because it is able to give us a very modern interpretation, a fresh and various sound, an example of wonderful musical improvisation and the result is one of likable listening. The Alessio Menconi trio has been performing in Italy for 4 years, and its interplay is perfect.
