USA: The Either/Orchestra to play Fête, Providence RI

The Either/Orchestra to play FêteProvidence RI
Friday, February 3, 8 pm; two sets

Fête is a beautiful new club with great sound and lights.
The program will feature leader Russ Gershon's new suite, "The Collected Unconscious," plus music from the National Theater of Ethiopia in the Haile Selassie era, and we won't forget the funk!

Reviews of The Collected Unconscious:

Either/Orchestra At the Peak of Their Power
at the New School (New York City)

"One of the two or three best New York concerts of the year...[the new piece] revealed an unexpected gravitas and lush, majestic power to rival or maybe surpass anything this band’s ever done, effortlessly and imaginatively bridging the gap between Cuba and Ethiopia...the shifting textures and voicings of these new compositions are equal to anything Gil Evans ever came up with.”
(Lucid Culture)

The Either/Orchestra Gets it All (Troy, New York)

"[The new piece is] slinky and sensual one moment, nostalgic and bluesy the next...complex and constantly shifting while remaining undeniably swinging throughout...The ensemble playing was precise and powerful,
and all 10 members took dazzling solo turns." (Albany Times-Union)

Gabrielle Agachiko
and band return to Chianti, Beverly MA on Sat., Jan 28and to
Union Square, Somerville MA
Thurs, Feb 9, 9:30 pm
No cover charge!

"When the band is cooking — when, say, Getchell and Gershon take turns letting loose Coltrane-like cries on one of Agachiko's most soul-baring tunes, "Unlovable" — the effect might remind you a bit of Nina Simone,
but also of Abbey Lincoln's work with
her then-husband, Max Roach."
–Jon Garelick, Boston Phoenix

"[Gabrielle is] angry, tender, sassy, soulful, womanly, girlish, light, heavy, sorrowful, dignified, wounded to name just a few.... It takes a lot of courage to go to all of those places." –Pam DeColo, opera singer, therapist,,

"Within a single set,
I wanted to be her best friend!"
–Constance Tenney, Art for the Heart
