The European Jazz Contest is a musical competition promoted by Saint Louis College of Music of Rome, in collaboration with Fondazione Siena Jazz, Civici Corsi di jazz of Milan and Saint Louis Brindisi branch, open to young talented musicians with original projects, coming from all over Europe.
The EJC is targeted to 4 categories:
- instrumental jazz (for instrumental groups)
- vocal jazz (for groups with vocalists)
- composers and arrangers (proposing tunes composed or arranged for Big Band).
The competition is subdivided into 3 separate phases:
- a first selection carried out on the basis of groups' demo and on scores for composers/arrangers.
- live selections for groups carried out in spring in the 4 adhering towns (Rome, Milan, Siena, Brindisi) in order to cope with all the regional areas for the musicians' gathering; the second phase for composers/arrangers consist in the rehearsals of the proposed tunes by Saint Louis Big Band.
- a live Final round for the groups category (both vocal and instrumental); a Final round for composers and arrangers, in which Saint Louis Big band will perform on stage the pre-selected tunes. Both final rounds will be carried out in summer within the "Odio l'Estate" Festival (www.odiolestate.it).
Groups Award:
The winning group of each category (vocal and instrumental) will be awarded with:
- Edition and issue of an original cd by the independent label Jazz Collection, distributed in European cd stores, on the main digital platforms and in Italian Culture Institutes abroad.
- Artistic agency contract with Saint Louis Management, for 2 years targeted to the promotion on national territory with a granted minimum of 12 concerts in the main Itlalian festivals, jazz clubs and Italian Culture Institutes abroad.
Composers and Arrangers Award:
The best arrangement and composition will be awarded with:
- Performance of the tune by Saint Louis Big Band, directed by M° Antonio Solimene, featuring Javier Girotto, within “Odio l’Estate” Festival.
- The tune will be included inside the 2012-2013 cd by Saint Louis Big Band, special guest Javier Girotto, edited by the independent label Jazz Collection, mentioning the author.
Soloists Award:
Up to 4 scholarships for the full immersion jazz workshops Jazz's Cool and for the Siena Jazz workshops, awarded to the best soloists (singers and/or players) selectioned among all groups admitted to the final rounds.
