Eva Cortés – Back 2 The Source (Universal Music 2011)

Honduran-born jazz vocalist and composer Eva Cortés has released her fourth album, "Back 2 The Source", on the Universal Music label. The work includes collaborations with Brazilian jazz guitarist Romero Lubambo and New York soul-jazz guitarist Mark Whitfield. "This record is, as its title says, a return to the origins of jazz," explained Ms. Cortés. "Back 2 The Source is the fruit of a collection of work in which I have sought to simplify to the maximum in order to express in another manner the feeling and emotion of jazz." Back 2 The Source follows up on Ms. Cortés's third album, "El Mar de Mi Vida" (released on April 10, 2010), inspired by the Flamenco music with which the artist grew up while living in Sevilla, Spain. Ms. Cortés' music is identified with the "fusion movement", which incorporates influences from a wide variety of genres, including traditional Latin American such as tango and bolero, Spanish (Andalusian) blues, and jazz. Ms. Cortés, 39, was born in Tegucigalpa. She grew up in Sevilla and currently makes her home between Madrid, Spain and Paris, France.
