Bugge Wesseltoft/Henrik Schwarz: Duo (Jazzland 2011)

'Duo' is an innovative collaboration between Bugge Wesseltoft, pianist, composer and pioneer of electronic jazz and Henrik Schwarz, one of the most sought after producers of dance music, who has remixed stars from Michael Jackson to James Brown. They effortlessly combine piano and electronics to make beautiful forward thinking music that will appeal to jazz and electronic music fans alike.
Bugge explains the concept of the album: "This duo feels totally organic. We are creating music on the spot, both live and in the studio. With today's electronic tools you can really improvise with them, and Henrik is so clever with his stuff - he makes amazing music from scratch." The album's opener was the very first collaboration between the duo, totally improvised, and recorded in Berlin in 2009. The lines between live playing and live sampling blur, so it becomes impossible to tell which musician is responsible for any given sound you are hearing, although there are unmistakable references to House music, Detroit techno and contemporary European jazz.
!K7 Records recording artist Henrik Schwarz is a resident performer at Berlin's famous techno cathedral Berghain, he performs and DJs at major clubs Worldwide. He has remixed international pop stars like Michael Jackson, Boy George, James Brown, Ane Brun and Coldcut to name a few. He has released over 100 productions on labels such as Warner Music, Strictly Rhythm, Ninja Tune and Defected. Piano maestro and three time Grammy award winning Bugge Wesseltoft has recorded for labels such as ECM and Act and his own Jazzland Records, for which he pioneered the blend of electronics and jazz often labeled as 'Nu Jazz'. Wesseltoft has released 10 influential albums and has previously teamed up with producers Francois Kevorkian, Laurent Garnier and Joe Claussel.
