Franco D’Andrea is one of the most innovative and prolific pianists of today, one of the great figures of Italian jazz. D’Andrea, winner of the “Prix du Musicien Européen de l’Académie du Jazz de France” (2010) and of many “Top Jazz” awards.
Franco D'Andrea will take part in 3 trios this coming year, pushing himself even further, moving instruments around and transforming sounds.

Franco D'Andrea, DJ Rocca and Andrea Ayassot, three of the most important figures in the jazz and electronics scene in Italy, collaborate in this new and innovative project. United in an unexpected synergy, Franco D'Andrea, DJ Rocca and Andrea Ayassot give life to a project that combines passions from afar, different generations and often distant cultural references, thanks to a single, shared curiosity about the infinite language of music. Franco D'Andrea is one of the best contemporary pianists and is a perfect example of the excellent work that Italian jazz has produced over the past 50 years. He stands out for the over two hundred songs that he has composed, the distinctive academic awards that he has received, the hundreds of collaborations with musicians from all over the world that he has taken part in, and the master classes that he has held in several schools and academies, as well as for the many groups that he has fired up with his boundless talent, highlighted once again in this unexpected project that, in addition to the historic producer from Emilia, involves none other than the great Andrea Ayassot on sax. listen to the live performance
FRANCO D'ANDREA "PIANO TRIO" con ALDO MELLA e ZENO DE ROSSI
With this trio Franco D'Andrea embarks on a new interplay of original compositions returning to the formula of the piano trio after ten years. The balance, tone and dialogues change with a general center of gravity that moves towards the piano to create sounds that are not identifiable as three separate instruments. The aim, therefore, is to broaden the sound spectrum, making the listener perceive a wider range of tone. To do this, Franco D'Andrea called upon extraordinary, innovative musicians, as he always does: Aldo Mella on double bass and Zeno De Rossi on drums, for the first time in a trio with Franco but previously in his quartet and sextet, playing a key role in this new group. While De Rossi works more with tone and rhythm, Mella uses the double bass, and sometimes the bow, to focus on the sound effects of the trio. It is in D'Andrea's nature to move the instruments around in order to change the effects and the roles of the musicians. The absence of wind instruments, present in the other groups, again reveals Franco D'Andrea's desire to challenge himself. Throwing himself into a new white space with Mella and De Rossi and playing with the transformation of the instruments, Franco D'Andrea draws new lines and creates original soundscapes.

An atypical trio with D'Andrea on the piano together with Daniele D'Agaro on the clarinet and Mauro Ottolini on the trombone. “The band was the fundamental reference point for traditional jazz, which is the music that fascinated me in my early days,” says Franco D'Andrea. “Louis Armstrong's 'Hot Five' band included trumpet, clarinet, trombone, piano and drums or banjo. This combination of instruments, which for me is absolutely magical, still has a lot to offer today's jazz music. This trio contains the essence of the sound of a band in which the characteristic instruments are undoubtedly the clarinet, representing the reeds, and the trombone, for brass. In this context the piano can play a variety of roles thanks to its typical orchestrality. The music develops from riffs, polyrhythms, improvised counterpoints, contemporary abstractions and sometimes sounds inspired by the Ellingtonian 'jungle style.'”
