Musicians: Aki Spadaro (piano), Gabrio Bevilacqua (contrabbasso), Emanuele Primavera (batteria)
An accomplished and thoughtful sound, a triangular space that takes its form from the dynamic communion of intentions, where the contributions of the single players blend themselves with a predilection for a balanced and composite comprehensive view: this is Even 3, unified piano trio that present their debut record, “Below Sea Level”.
Playing together for five years, group in the final at renowned “Chicco Bettinardi” Competition in 2010, Even 3 consists of Aki Spadaro on piano, Gabrio Bevilacqua on double bass and Emanuele Primavera on drums. Revealing the rich background everyone of the players has gained, the tunes range from the surprising and evocative Beach Boys’ Don’t Talk, to the elegant rendition of maestro Morricone’s Nuovo Cinema Paradiso theme, up to song from Sicilian musical tradition, such as E vui durmiti ancora, also including contemporary jazz authors, such as Ralph Towner’s Tramonto , which made them get the high ranks at Piacenza competition. Among the original compositions, two by Spadaro and two by Bevilacqua (included the headtrack), there’s a strong inclination towards the themes, the lyrical Below Sea Level and New Waves, the lazier Domenica Mattina, and the syncopated walking of Cortile della Cera; but each one features a writing that has been conceived just for the elements of this trio. And on all the tracks, pianist Spadaro’s creative musicality is steady talking with bass player Bevilacqua ‘s bright counterpoint and drummer Primavera’s pushing in rhythm.
Distributed through the innovatory digital channel Delivery Your Music, this recording constitutes a good presentation of a group that has already its own defined identity.
