SEATTLE (17 November 2017): Several years in the making plus nearly a full year of paving the way for a successful release by issuing a trio of infectious singles throughout 2017, saxophonist Justin Young finally dropped his fourth album, “Blue Soul,” on Friday. The JustnTime Records platter packs a two-fisted punch of potent pop, jazz and R&B hooks along with the heart and soul of Young’s Detroit upbringing. The vibrant new single, “High Definition,” is presently impacting playlists nationally, adding powerful Billboard-reporting radio stations weekly. Enhancing the buzz are favorable record reviews and the announcement of a December 10 album release concert celebration at Columbia Winery near Seattle (Woodinville), Young’s adopted hometown.         

                    

A hardworking hustler and a charismatic contender deservedly on the cusp of a major breakthrough in the smooth/contemporary jazz realm, Young grew up in Hitsville USA, the son of a musician father. Spending his formative years in close proximity to Motown became a major influence on how he makes music. He recorded “Blue Soul” live in the studio, collaborating with a talented team of first-call players and accomplished musicians, songwriters, producers and mix engineers, including fellow sax players and Billboard chart-toppers Jackiem Joyner and Darren Rahn, former Earth, Wind & Fire guitarist-vocalist Sheldon Reynolds, noted bassists Alex Al and Hussain Jiffry, and the late drummer to the stars, Ricky Lawson. Young plies his soprano, alto and tenor sax to a songbook that spans ebullient instrumental pop, deep R&B grooves with a sniff of Detroit funk, and unfettered jazz soloing.

The dozen tracks on “Blue Soul” – originals with all but one co-written by Young - are slickly produced and thoughtfully textured, presenting readily-accessible melodies and lush harmonies. Bubbling with enthusiasm and positive energy, the saxman climbed the charts during the first quarter of the year with the undeniable “Always There.” He cruised through summer by dropping “Jazz Along the 101.” Radio outlets were recently serviced “High Definition” and the chart ascension has begun. The strength of the material on “Blue Soul” bodes to continue Young’s momentum and magnify his growth well into the New Year.

IPO Recordings has started a proprietary “radio” offering of its catalog, focused principally on classic modern jazz, a period that has often been marginalized by the major labels. IPO’s Bill Sorin stated that “We started IPO in 2004 to document the still brilliant playing of musicians representing ‘classic modern jazz,’ the period from bebop until modal and crossover styles came to dominate the music, who were often neglected by the major labels during important creative periods in their lives.  We focused on artists who were part of the first generation of classic modern jazz, who learned the music on the bandstand with people like Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie and Thad Jones, and who themselves made original contributions to the style.  Nine of the artists we’ve recorded have been elected Jazz Masters of the National Endowment for the Arts, the nation’s highest form of recognition in the field of jazz. “IPO reconstituted some of the great collaborations of this period, such as James Moody and Kenny Barron, and started some new ones, like Moody and Hank Jones.  We’ve also brought together groups of legendary players to celebrate great composers from the period, such as Thad Jones.  In many cases, the IPO releases represent the first (and only) recordings in which these artists have played together.  “IPO’s approach has been to provide musicians with the best available recording venues, equipment and engineers, giving them the freedom to create without time constraints and with absolute minimum interference from non-musicians.  We’ve committed our resources to the studio rather than marketing, and for that reason have typically flown a little under the radar. “The new radio portal provides listeners with access to the complete IPO catalog for streaming on any computer or mobile device, and offers them the ability to download any of our albums and individual tracks.  Listeners can set up their own playlists for both streaming and downloading, enabling them to create their own albums and arrange the music for any mood or setting.  It’s a great way to sample our catalog and create a personal library.” The IPO website address is www.iporecordings.com. Asha Brodie Jazz launches Jazz Moods Radio

How do you enjoy your jazz music? Smooth? Peppered with Latin flavors? Vintage blends, straight with no chaser or just downright funky? You can have it all and then some when you tune in to Jazz Moods Radio (http://www.jazzmoodsradio.com)

The online radio station was launched in late October by founder Asha Brodie who also serves as the CEO of the company. Asha said the station is special to her because it was born out of the desire to keep the good music of jazz flowing.

Asha who has written for her personal jazz blog called Asha Brodie Jazz since 2006 said that she wanted to open up another way to promote jazz music and artists. “I really wanted to create a platform for my readers to  “hear” the new jazz music I wrote about and purchase the artists' CD.” She also said that the station was also established to promote and support burgeoning jazz artists seeking exposure as well.

In the middle of October, Asha was able to launch Jazz Moods Radio and with just two and a half short months on the air, the station has exceeded all of her expectations. “I sat in awe as I watched the statistics and saw that I had listeners from as far as Russia, Serbia, France, Japan, Israel, Greece and even the Caribbean and more. It was definitely mind-blowing because I had not even started promoting it heavily just yet.”

Today Asha works with a small team who assists in keeping the momentum flowing. Over the Christmas holidays, the station launched a campaign filled with holiday giveaways.

The month of January saw a phenomenal growth in listeners as they tuned in faithfully each day for the two hour Jazz Grammy Awards spotlight. The show was hosted by the charismatic DJ Big Kahuna and featured music from those nominated at the recently concluded 57th Annual Grammy Awards.

Following the success of the Grammy Awards show, Jazz Moods Radio has recently introduced the concert-styled show called  “The Jazz Hole.” The two-hour show is hosted by DJ Big Kahuna and features music from one jazz artist each Wednesday night. Trumpeter Roy Hargrove was the spotlight artist in the inaugural show.

Listeners of Jazz Moods Radio can expect even more great shows in the months ahead including a show which premieres new CDs on the day that they are released as well as conversations with both upcoming and established Jazz artists.

White Plains, NY October 15, 2013 – NewUrbanJazz Radio Producer Bob Baldwin has forged alliances with fellow musicians and artists to raise funds for Latin Jazz Legend Dave Valentin by producing a concert at the Tarrytown Music Hall on November 7, 2013.   Fellow musicians and artists will donate their time, talent and resources to perform a fundraiser for the Grammy Award winning artist. Net proceeds will benefit the Bronx, NY native and said proceeds will assist in medical bill payments and basic living needs as Valentin has not worked any musical performances since suffering from a stroke on March 3, 2012.   “We are very happy to have formed an alliance with other fellow musicians, and we don't take our musical gifts lightly.  Any one of us could lose use of our fingers to create music and a livelihood for ourselves or our families.  The unification of artists attending makes a huge statement from the jazz and music community", says Bob Baldwin, host of the NewUrbanJazz Lounge.   NewUrbanJazz is a radio program that begun in 2008 after CD101.9 went off the air and flipped music genres, leaving a void for jazz music in the NY-Tristate. He learned latin percussion first when he was a teenager, and then switched to flute. Valentin's teacher, the legendary Hubert Laws, suggested that he not double on saxophone because of his attractive sound on the flute. He studied at the Bronx Community College. In 1977, he made his recording debut with Ricardo Marrero's group and he appeared also on a Noel Pointer album. Discovered by Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen, Valentin was the first artist signed to GRP Records, and he has been a popular attraction ever since. Valentin has recorded over 15 albums, combining the influence of pop, R&B and Brazilian music with Latin and contemporary jazz to create a slick and accessible form of crossover jazz. Annual 4-day event featuring quite a few of today's top class jazz impovisers and trend-setters. One or two of these performers are worth the price of the ticket alone. My personal picks for this event: pianist Robert Glasper, trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, trumpeter Terence Blanchard, pianist Chick Corea, pianist Jason Moran and The Bandwagon, and the Central Virginia Jazz Orchestra. Great place to watch jazz outdoors, too!

Preceded by a special "Homegrown at the Hipp" event a the legendary Hippodrome Theater in Jackson Ward. Artists TBD for that.
