TURKEY/BELGIUM/NAMIBIA/CUBA/GERMANY/NETHERLANDS: Shishani & Afro Namibian Tales

We are proud to announce the beginning of a new musical journey: Shishani & the Afro Namibian Tales.
We started at the beginning of this year with our first live music video recording called “Ndapandula” – recorded in a charming farm house in the outskirts of Belgium. Ndapandula” is an ode to those who have helped you on your journey, marking the start of a new chapter in life.
Our first concert took place in the magical midst of Mezrab, concert venue in Amsterdam. Below you can watch a compilation made from that concert. Our following stop was a performance at the Africa Festival in Wurzburg - Europe’s largest African arts festival- which was greeted with much enthusiasm. The road continues towards the Marcato Mondial Festival in Venlo (The Netherlands) taking place on September 13th this year.

Shishani & The Afro Namibian Tales is an eclectic acoustic band that fuses sounds from different cultures. It merges black American music traditions with African, Cuban and European aural flavours. Shishani’s soothing voice and powerful songwriting finds its inspiration in the Namibian social and cultural context and blends with cello virtuosity, explorations in Afro Anatolian percussion, mbira music from Zimbabwe, and the melodies of centuries-old West African kora music to provide a journey that traverses numerous musical borders. The group was founded by Şahin During and Shishani in 2015. Shishani & The Afro Namibian Tales make music that is alive with their languages and cultural heritage; they present original compositions as well storytelling and chanting in Oshiwambo, one of Namibia’s native tongues, English,Spanish, and Shona, a language from Zimbabwe.
Shishani (nam/be) - vocals & guitar
Ana Carla Maza (cu) - cello & vocals
