Its name an anagram formed by the first letter of the last names of its members, BANN features the vibrant sounds of tenor saxophonist SEAMUS BLAKE, the dynamic Israeli guitarist OZ NOY and the driving rhythm section of double bassist JAY ANDERSON and drummer ADAM NUSSBAUM. The quartet makes its recording debut on this exhilarating studio session that showcases with authority the groundbreaking electro--‐acoustic band’s inventive sound in which Noy’s progressive fusion guitar and Blake’s jazzy leaps soar over the percolating rhythmic foundation laid down by Anderson and Nussbaum. Touring as a unit since 2007, BANN has appeared at festivals and jazz clubs in France, Sweden, Finland and Germany and the quartet’s concert at the Internationales Jazzfestival Viersen was broadcast throughout Europe by satellite on 3SAT.
The accomplishments of each member of BANN are impressive. Nussbaum has been one of the most acclaimed and sophisticated drummers on the international jazz scene since the late 70s, when after touring with John Scofield he formed a trio with the guitarist and bassist Steve Swallow. Anderson has been the bassist of choice by for jazz artists ranging from Paul Bley and Yosuke Yamashita to Michael Brecker, Mike Stern and Lee Konitz while his non--‐jazz collaborations include work with Frank Zappa, Tom Waits and even poet Allen Ginsberg. Blake is no stranger to Jazz Eyes which released the tenor saxophonist’s first live album, the double CD “Live in Italy” was critically acclaimed worldwide. An incredibly versatile guitarist able to play jazz, funk, rock, blues and R&B with equal ease, Noy has been based in New York City since 1996 and has toured and/or recorded with Jeff “Tain” Watts and Mike Manieri as well as with his own bands featuring drummers Anton Fig and Keith Carlock and bassists Will Lee, James Genus and Reggie Washington.
