FLORIDA: Cuban pianist & his Cuban Jazz Project

If you want to experience the essence of Cuban jazz, just trace the musical plotlines on stage at the Eissey Campus Theatre Friday night. That’s when the visiting Cuban jazz pianist Alexis Bosch takes the stage with his Cuban Jazz Project ensemble.
And he’s organized the concert to showcase the two most potent forces in the jazz sound of his native island: a set of soulful Cuban rhythms, followed by a set of American jazz standards.
Founts of Cuban jazz, he calls them. But that might be a term too demure for what happens when an Afro-Cuban rumba, drummed on conga skins, meets the melodic lines of an American standard. At age 47, Bosch knows quite well what happens – and it’s the reason he’s been pounding the ivories since he was 13 years old.(Palm Beach Post)
