Thursday, December 19:
The Either/Orchestra
28th Birthday Party
The
E/O's first show was at the Cambridge Public LIbrary on December 17,
1985, so technically this is a 28 years and two days party.
We'll have all ten of our members plus guest spots from
alumni Jerome Deupree, Kenny Freundlich, Mike Rivard,
Bob Nieske, Colin Fisher and Dan Fox.
Essential auxiliary assistance from Jared Sims and Dave Harris
Light show by a.minor, weather permitting
We'll be featuring music from deep in the archives, charts we haven't played in years or decades.
Here's how it works:
It's a party! We'll provide a good start on the food and drink, but you are heartily encouraged to BYO.
We ask an extremely modest suggested donation of $12. If you want to
throw in more we would love it, as the performance will be sporting
almost 20 musicians.

New from Accurate Records:
Ghost Train Orchestra
Book of Rhapsodies
Produced by Grammy award winner Danny Blume and featuring Carpenter’s
surreal arrangements for 12-member orchestra plus choir, Book of
Rhapsodies is Ghost Train Orchestra’s second album, following their
highly acclaimed debut Hothouse Stomp (2011). Compositions by Alec Wilder, Charlie Shavers, Reginald Foresythe, and Raymond Scott.
"This is an amazing ensemble, playing music like no others these days.
There hasn’t been big band music as exciting as this since forever"
– Andrew Velez, NYC Jazz Record
"The only thing better than hearing this recording would be seeing the band live." – Frank Alkyer, Downbeat
"It's music with grit to it, with drive and raw energy." – Patrick Jarenwattananon, for All Things Considered

Agachiko
Yes!
Ou
“Charismatic, searing live
performances...[this septet] began as a Nina Simone tribute, but soon
expanded to a variety of blues, jazz, pop, and Agachiko originals.
What’s exciting about this project is not just Agachiko’s vocal
performances (powered by a clear, powerful instrument, knife-sharp
diction, and a touch of warm vibrato), but the fully realized
conception.
The Either/Orchestra’s Russ Gershon wrote the
arrangements...[the flute-trumpet-tenor sax horn section's] agile,
piquant backing choruses, obbligatos, and solos are the perfect
complement to Agachiko’s emotional explorations...
Yes to this one."
–Jon Garelick, Boston Globe
"Fresh...very entertaining." –the jazzpage.com
