Ruff Sound Quartet - Peace - Ode to the music of Ornette ColemanOn the 25th of September, Ruff Sound will release their album Peace as an ode to the work of Ornette Coleman. The first week the cd will be available in our webshop for €15,- using this discount code RUFFSOUND at the checkout. Ornette Coleman, one of the most important founders of the free jazz movement always searched for new forms of improvisation and musical freedom. With Harmolodics he moved beyond the restraints of the harmony and form of be-bop and came up with a more raw and intuitive music, less academic and focused more on energy and emotion. These ideas have lost nothing of their power; They are still a source of inspiration to many musicians. This also is the case for the 'Ruff Sound Quartet', they play various Ornette pieces from the 60's and see Ornette as a great inspiration, but they do perform all of this in their own way. They are greatly using the improvisational possibilities this chordless music offers. All recordings on this CD were done live, in one room, without any overdubs. Joris Posthumus – Alto saxophone Mete Erker – Tenor saxophone Guus Bakker – Double bass Pascal Vermeer - Drums Tonight (Friday, September 21st), the Ruff Sound Quartet will present their new album with a release concert in Paradox, Tilburg.
