This family-orientated festival is an initiative by the mobile phone operator and Lindelani Mkhize Entertainment, which also manages Joyous Celebration amongst some of his other projects.
Annual festival-goers have seen a growing list of famous national and international artists performing over the last four years, and the festival has shown tremendous growth in audience numbers, some travelling as far away as Limopo and the Free State to attend the event.
Artists that will grace the stage this year include the legendary Mango Groove, Oliver Mtukutzi, Hugh Masekela, Ernie Smith, and many more local bands.
“The City of Durban and the local government have thrown their full support behind the event, which is now this second biggest supported local event for the Municipality after the Durban July,” says Anthony Garstang, senior manager for sponsorship at MTN SA.
“MTN’s passion in jazz and local music has been demonstrated by its involvement in the festival for the last three years. We anticipate more than 20 000 people during the full day of activities this year and to cater for this, we have introduced more policing, better signage, as well as a park and ride facility to and from the festival grounds.”
Garstang adds that this year the event is more than just a music festival and will also feature ethnic food booths and craft areas, as well as a day-care centre with jumping castles and entertainment for all ages.
“Parents will be able to leave their children with dedicated child-minders for a small fee, so that they can enjoy themselves with the knowledge that their kids are safely taken care of,” says Garstang.
Tickets are set at R180 per person and are available through Computicket. Patrons are advised to bring their own blankets, lawn chairs and sun umbrellas to have a comfortable day filled with music, food and fun.
