INDONESIA; Surabaya to host jazz festival

A number of Indonesia’s best-known jazz musicians, including Bubi Chen, Indra Lesmana, Idang Rasjidi and Barry Likumahuwa, will be performing at the Jazz Traffic Festival 2011 at Grand City Surabaya in Surabaya, East Java on Sunday.

Other musicians like Balawan, Dira Sugandi, Tompi, group band Maliq & D’essentials, RAN and Ligro Trio will also participate in the 12-hour festival.

The festival's committee chief Wahyu Widodo said Friday that the event would be the biggest jazz festival in the city.

Errol Jonathans, the festival's creative mastermind, said it was time to bring jazz to the city.

“Some of Indonesia’s finest jazz musicians were born in the city, including Bubi Chen and the late Maryono,” Errol said as quoted by tempo.co.
