Canada, Montreal: REPERCUSSION news update

Montreal, November 6, 2011—The Canadian legendary percussion quartet, Répercussion, had the pleasure of performing together in Montreal in two special events during its 2011 season.

The first event featured Répercussion as the invited guests of “Concerto Della Donna” - a dynamic group of young female singers under the direction of Maestro Iwan Edwards (former Choir Director for the Montreal Symphony Orchestra). This memorable concert included exciting and colorful music from Africa and South America for women’s choir and percussion, including a new work composed by percussionist Robert Lépine. Lepine’s piece was not only beautiful to the ears of the listeners, but sent an important environmental message to the audience about water conservation for the future of our world and planet.

In addition, Concerto Della Donna performed works by Canadian composer Allan Bevan and another unique composition by Répercussion’s Aldo Mazza.

Following this event, Répercussion appeared as guests of the Longueuil Symphony Orchestra as part of the highlight of the annual Longueuil Percussion Festival. The group performed a fivemovement piece composed especially for them entitled “ A Celebration on Five Continents” by Montreal composer Yves Lapierre. This spectacular piece took the audience on a unique musical voyage through the five continents – Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and Australia. This outdoor concert was jam-packed and the audience was treated to accompanying fireworks which lit up the spectacular Montreal skyline.

Répercussion performers Luc Langlois, Robert Lepine, Aldo Mazza and Chantal Simard, celebrated 37 years as an ensemble in 2011. Since its beginning in 1974, this celebrated percussion group has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues, festivals and events; including the Hong Kong ArtsFestival, Expo ’86 (Vancouver), Expo ’92 (Seville), Toronto’s Roy
Thompson Hall, Teatro Nacional (Costa Rica), and the Montreal Jazz Festival. Over 2,500 performances later, Répercussion continues to be invited as featured guests with leading symphony orchestras and can be regularly heard on television and radio broadcasts world-wide.
