Benny Green-Source ( 1-2-3-4 GO 2011)
Green is a young classicist, and one of the better ones playing the piano. He plays funky and hard, and breathes not only be-bop but Oscar Peterson s virtuosic effusions as well. --New York Times
Benny Green s first trio CD in ten years, performed
by his working trio. A strong collection of seldom-recorded compositions, this is Green s 15th CD as a leader. In 1993 Oscar Peterson chose Benny as the first recipient of the City of Toronto s Glen Gould International Protégé Prize in Music. That year, Green replaced Gene Harris in Ray Brown s Trio, working with the veteran bass player until 1997. In addition to his prior releases as a leader, Green has
performed with Betty Carter, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Watson, and the Dizzy Gillespie
All Stars.
