AUSTRIA: Vienna Jazz Floor Festival 2011

The Vienna Jazz Floor turns the whole of November into a month of Jazz and Blues. Every evening, international artists meet in ten music clubs on the Vienna jazz scene – to the delight of audiences.

From 1 to 30 November, the festival offers more than 40 concerts by Austrian and international artists in an intimate club setting. The music ranges from Traditional, Blues and Swing to Folk, Latin, Klezmer and Funk, to Modern Jazz and Avant-garde.

On the program of the Vienna Jazz Floor 2011 are performances by the Canadian Melanie Dekker Trio and the Columbian Edmar Castaneder, who gives unusual performances as a jazz harpist. From the USA come singer and pianist Karrin Allyson as well as the New York clarinetist Don Byron.

The world class saxophonist Benny Golson performs together with the virtuoso Fritz Pauer Trio. The Mojo Blues Band is one of the Austrian regulars and enjoys cult status.

The ten Viennese music venues reflect the bandwidth of the urban club scene: from the legendary Jazzland in the city center, to the Reigen, to declared music bistros, such as the Davis, or jazz cafés à la Miles Smiles. The Club Festival invites people to embark on the adventure that is jazz - away from the mainstream, in the particularly close atmosphere of the clubs.
