The homage has been taking place since October 19, as part of the Jazz Festival of Barcelona, which dedicates its 45th edition to the figure of the late master of piano, the Cubadebate Web site reported on Monday.
Accompanying Chucho Valdes and his Afro-Cuban Messengers will be Cuban rumba performers, a corps de ballet, pianists Mauricio Vallina and Paloma Manfugas and special guests, among which we find Javier Masso Caramelo, Omar Sosa, Lazara Cachao, Jerry Gonzalez, Javier Colina and Bebo’s youngest daughter, Mayra Caridad.
This autumn, the Cuban musician will tour Spain to present his last album, Border-Free, released in July by the Jazz Village label.
After his participation in the Barcelona Jazz Festival, Chucho will perform in stages of Girona (October 31, Auditori), Manresa (November 1st, Kursaal), Cartagena (November 8, Jazz Festival), Zaragoza (November 9, Jazz Festival), A Coruña (November 13, Jazzatlantica) and Seville (November 15, Teatro de la Maestranza).
Border-Free is nominated to a Latin Grammy this year in the Best Jazz Album category. Awards will be given in November.(ACN)
