Riding the momentum of 2016's groundbreaking, critically heralded release, "Pasar Klewer" – an album awarded a 5-star review by Downbeat, All About Jazz, and numerous others – MoonJune Records is proud to present the new album by the iconic keyboardist, composer and producer, Dwiki Dharmawan. Drawing from both his extensive jazz influences and his rich cultural heritage, the Indonesian maestro delivers yet another spellbinding masterwork!

Brimming with adventurous compositions, ingenious arrangements and superlative performances, "Rumah Batu" (meaning "the stone house" in Indonesian Bahasa language) almost defies categorization – eclipsing both progressive jazz and world music genres. While a score of diverse ethnic flavors abound throughout, within its nucleus resides the free-spirited, unpretentious essence that epitomizes the greatest jazz.

Augmented by a stellar cast of players, vastly international in scope, including the enigmatic French virtuoso, of Vietnamese descent, Nguyên Lê, on guitar; legendary flamenco fretless bassist, Spain's Carles Benavent; the extraordinary flutist, also from Indonesia, Sa'at Syah, and; the proven progressive backbone of fellow Israeli-born, UK transplants, Yaron Stavi [on upright bass (yes: the album features twin basses!)] and (supreme drummer) Asaf Sirkis – this landmark recording offers an intimate glimpse into Dwiki's unparalleled genius as player, arranger and songwriter.

The album chronicles yet another magical session created and captured at the already-infamous La Casa Murada / The Stone House (Rumah Batu!). Situated in the tranquil, picturesque setting of the Catalan wine region of Penedès, Spain, the studio's recordings seem to take on a life of their own; and Rumah Batu is certainly no exception: articulating jazz's continuing evolution in the 21st century.

For those who wondered what jazz messenger Dwiki Dharmawan could possibly conjur as a follow-up to Rumah Batu's unanimously praised predecessor, prepare to be amazed and perplexed -- and escorted on a musical sojourn unlike any the genre has ever witnessed!

The first featuring video related to Dwiki Dharmawan's Rumah Batu album is of the tune "Impenan". The world has to hear this amazing Indonesian singer, originally from the most msucial city of Indonesia, Bandung, the capital of Sunda region, which is also Dwiki Dharmawan's home town. This is a shorter version (4:17) of the full length tune on the album (8:20) Direct link to purchase CD and 24bit HD Download:

USA/INDONESIA: Tribute to Allan Holdsworth by simakDialog & MoonJune - Free Download of Riza Arshad's arrangement of Water On The Brain Pt. 2

Dear Friends In Music

Exactly one year ago, on April 15, 2017, a dear friend died.

There is no greater measure of a life well lived than the amount of people he had impacted, and by that measure the artist Allan Holdsworth lived a very good life. This man took a plank of wood, a few strings, and some wires and transformed people's lives in a way that few others have. The ultimate genius of the rarest kind. One of THE greatest musicians ever lived. So much history with Allan Holdsworth between 2001-2016.

Rest In Peace, Allan Holdsworth.
Thank You for everything.
I miss You.

****************************************************

Earlier last year, on January 13, 2017, one of my best friend died as well, the iconic Indonesian piano maestro, Riza Arshad, of simakDialog, a progressive jazz band from Jakarta, Indonesia. For simakDialog's last tour in the USA, in November of 2014, Riza Arshad arranged one tune of Allan Holdsworth for the band's live repertoire: Water On The Brain, Part 2 , originally recorded on the seminal album "Road Games" (1983). The tune was played only on the band's performances in New York, NY (ShapeSHifter Lab), Baltimore, MD (Orion Studios) and Pamberton, NJ (Burlington County College, Gagliarchives Radio Show). We planned to release a live album in mid 2017 using recordings from the Baltimore show, but Riza's premature death stopped our plans. Eventually one day, the Live In Baltimore 2014 will come out, but I thought I would like to tribute Allan Holdsworth with Riza Arshad's tribute to Allan.

The live version of Water On The Brain, Part 2 by simakDialog is available for FREE DOWNLOAD until April 22, 2018.

Indonesian guitar legend of Balinese ethnic heritage and balinese Hindu faith - Dewa Budjana – marks his initial Favored Nations release in grandiose style, offering his most ambitious album to date, "Zentuary." Supported by an all-star cast of enormous proportions - including jazz drums (and occasional pianist) legend, Jack DeJohnette (Miles Davis; over forty years on the ECM label), the iconic progressive bass and stickman, Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel; King Crimson; Stick Men), and the extraordinary superstar sideman talents of Britain's Gary Husband (Allan Holdsworth; John McLaughlin; Billy Cobham; Jack Bruce) – Budjana offers a profusion of cross-cultural delicacies which tease, cajole, enthrall and, ultimately, satisfy listeners. Special guests include guitarist Guthrie Govan (The Aristocrats; Steven Wilson; GPS), Tim Garland (Chick Corea; Bill Bruford), Danny Markovich (Marbin), Czech Symphony Orchestra and Indonesian flutist/vocalist Saat Syah and Indonesian singers Ubiet and Risa Saraswati.
Dewa Budjana, a veteran player whose 30 years career has already been marked by collaborations with a virtual "who's who" of jazz, fusion and prog luminaries (Peter Erskine, Vinnie Colaiuta, Antonio Sanchez, Chad Wackerman, Jimmy Johnson, Jimmy Haslip, Dave Carpenter, Reggie Hamilton, Ben Williams, Joe Locke, Larry Goldings, Janis Siegel, Dwiki Dharmawan, Ron Thal Bamblefoot, Billy Sheehan, and many others),  still manages to raise the stakes and elevate the level of his game on his fifth solo album.
Aside from his renowned skills on guitar, Zentuary documents Dewa Budjana's position as one of the genre's most prolific, accomplished composers and arrangers. The music on this 2-CD set is a magnanimous affair, where its highly skilled participants are given ample space to create and express. The net result is a soaring, synergistic mélange of brilliant, articulate instrumental progressive rock, jazz-rock fusion and world music. After 4 successful and critically acclaimed releases on MoonJune Records ("Dawai In Paradise", 2013; "Joged Kahyangan" in 2013, "Surya Namaskar" in 2014", and "Hasta Karma" in 2015)  this is  - under the auspices of MoonJune Music and MoonJune Asia  - a Favored Nations debut of the Indonesian icon not to be missed!

Mr. MoonJune recommends JOEY ALEXANDER, 12yo jazz piano prodigy from Indonesia, debut album on MOTEMA MUSIC

Dear Friends in Music

Please welcome to Your world, Motéma's recording artist, and my Little Big (or my Big Little) friend, the most amazing, 12 years old Indonesian jazz piano prodigy, now residing in the world's jazz capital, New York City -  JOEY ALEXANDER.

Joey has his debut album "My Favorite Things" featuring Larry Grenadier (Stan Getz, Brad Mehldau, Pat Metheny), Ulysses Owens Jr. (Kurt Elling, Wynton Marsalis, Christian McBride), Russell Hall (bass), Sammy Miller (drums) and Alphonso Horne (trumpet). Official worldwide release date; May 12, 2015.

If You haven't heard his name by now, please memorize this name: JOEY ALEXANDER. Joey is one of today's most impressive musicians I am aware of.And again, he is only 12 years old (in June), and wow! I feel very honored to know Joey, to be friend with his great parents Danny and Fara, and it was an immense privilege for being able to organe Joey's first ever full performances in the USA, at the Paul Robeson Center For The Arts in Pricneton, NJ on May 4 and  at ShapeShifter Lab in Brooklyn, New York City on May 7 of 2014.

If the word “genius” still means anything, it applies to this prodigy.”  "(Joey) plays with breathtaking precocity and mastery of several decades of piano style."  — DownBeat Magazine

“Technically fluent and harmonically astute.”  — The New York Times

“Magnificent not only for the child’s virtuosity - plenty of prodigies have outsized chops - but for the maturity and perception he brought.”  — Jazz Time

"Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock set Joey Alexander on a path to make some serious waves here in the U.S."  — The JazzLine

For all inquiries about the publicity and more, please contact Joey's record label:

An extraordinary and uniquely gifted young pianist from Indonesia (born in 2003), Joey Alexander marks his recording debut with the release of *My Favorite Things* (May 12, 2015). Joey brings a delicate, profound and soulful touch to his own interpretation of such classics as My Favorite Things, Giant Stepsand Over the Rainbow and showcases his talents as an arranger, composer and bandleader. Joey Alexander taught himself to play piano by listening with his father to classic jazz albums. An amateur musician, Alexander’s father soon recognized his son’s gift for jazz, as his technique and ability to grasp complicated musical concepts was beyond someone of his years. Due to the lack of jazz education where he lived, Alexander began attending jam sessions with senior musicians. From there, his musical intuition flourished, as did his love of playing jazz. In recognition of his talent, UNESCO invited Alexander to play solo piano in honor of his jazz idol Herbie Hancock, who provides enthusiastic support to Alexander’s budding career. Through festival appearances and awards for his improvisational brilliance, the world has taken notice of this phenomenal and exciting pianist with the astonishing technique and soulful sound.

For upcoming Joey's performance, please chek his website:
