E/O News: Agachiko Kickstarter Campaign...and more...

E/O News, November 2012
what's happening with the Either/Orchestra,
leader Russ Gershon and his other projects

The Agachiko
Kickstarter campaign!

As you may know, for the last three years I've been playing with the great singer Gabrielle Agachiko.  Our seven piece group has recorded a wonderful group of originals and standards, including many of my arrangements.

Now, we need your help to get
this music to you, so we've created a Kickstarter site.

This Kickstarter campaign has 13 more days to meet out goal of $6500.

Friends, you came through for the Either/Orchestra when we needed help getting to Ethiopia last year.  I heartily encourage you to throw in a little on Agachiko - it's a fine recording and Gabrielle is a singer who deserves to be heard!

In case you're in Alberta later this week...Mahmoud Ahmed and the Either/Orchestra
University of Alberta Festival of Ideas

Edmonton, Citadel Theater November 15
Camrose, Augustana Chapel, November 16
Calgary, Knox United Church, November 17

We are thrilled to work again with Ethiopia's most beloved singer for a mini-tour in Canada.  We'll be playing his classics, and for the first time Mahmoud will be singing a couple of songs from the Nerses Nalbandian collection.  Nalbandian was an Armenian immigrant who led the Haile Selassie National Theater Orchestra in the 50s and 60s.

Join us for a tribute to the late, great John Tchicai and to help us celebrate the E/O's 27th Anniversary

John was a major player in the free jazz 60s, recording with John Coltrane, Albert Ayler and Don Cherry, as well as John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

The E/O had the pleasure of working with him in the 90s and 00s, and we'll be playing music he composed for use in this tribute concert.
