Recognized the world over not only for their bold-face names, but especially by their superb talents, New Jersey Performing Arts Center's sixth annual TD James Moody Jazz Festival (November 4-12) is packed with performances by today's most listened-to luminaries on the jazz scene.

The 2017 TD James Moody Jazz Festival, named in honor of Newark saxophone virtuoso, kicks off on November 4th with Grammy-winning vocal quartet The Manhattan Transfer, and the highlights don't stop there! 

On November 5th, tabla master Zakir Hussain and bassist Dave Holland collaborate for Crosscurrents, a special performance melding the classical music of India with American jazz; the pair will be joined by Bollywood vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, guitarist Sanjay Divecha, and more. Also on November 5th, Grammy-winning Japanese jazz keyboardist Hiromi Uehara and Colombian harpist Edmar Castañeda join together for a night of truly original music.

On November 8th, international trumpet superstar Chris Botti plays from his wide repertoire of jazz, classical and pop.

On November 10, legendary vocalist Dianne Reeves joins Christian McBride for his One on One series, a night filled with conversation and music.
Two living legends of guitar -- John McLaughlin and Jimmy Herring -- join forces on November 10th for Meeting of the Spirits
On November 11th, Colombian salsa dance band Grupo Niche and Cuban singer Willy Chirino team up for a night of uptempo dance music and smooth romantic numbers. 

The festival goes out with a bang on November 12th first with the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, a career-making opportunity for five top singers to vie for the "SASSY Award," which returns for the 6th straight year.

TD James Moody Jazz Festival culminates with Ella and Dizzy: The Centennial Celebration, a star-studded celebration of Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie's 100th birthdays, with Gregory Porter, Lizz Wright, Regina Carter, Valerie Simpson, Randy Brecker and Sean Jones, backed by the Christian McBride Big Band.

In the greater Newark community, TD James Moody Jazz Festival hosts exciting FREE performances, including Terell Stafford All-Stars performing the music of Dizzy Gillespie (November 4 at Bethany Baptist Church); Newark vocalist Carrie Jackson (November 8th at Gateway Center II); and Camille Thurman & The Darrell Green Trio (November 11th at Victoria Theater).
Dorthaan's Place, NJPAC's popular Sunday jazz and brunch combo held in NICO Kitchen + Bar, also begins its season during the festival with jazz baritone Kevin Mahogany on November 12.
