Marvin Timothy is a 21-year-old soul singer and piano player. Otis Redding, Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder are a few of his biggest inspirations. Marvin probably thought ''Why think small, if you can dream big'' when he decided to record his debut EP in the world famous Abbey Road Studios in London (artists like the Beatles, Amy Winehouse and Stevie Wonder have recorded here). He took a few of Hollands' best musicians with him to fulfill his dream: record his own music as a tribute to Donny Hathaway.
The musicians who played on this record:
Drums: Lean Robbemont (Do & Waylon)
Bass: Paddy van Rijswijk (Trijntje Oosterhuis, Marc Broussard)
Keys/Vocals: Roger Happel (Candy Dulfer, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Berget Lewis)
Guitar: Martijn van Agt (Ilse de Lange, Trijntje Oosterhuis, Anouk)
The recording took place in Studio 3. This is the studio where for example Amy Winehouse recorded her duet with Tony Bennet. Chris Bolster, the engineer Marvin worked with also recorded with Birdy, John Fogerty, Jamie Cullum, Paul McCartney, Dido, James Bay and many more.
The EP is a mixture of original songs and covers, all with the same soulful vibe.
