Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue

New Orleans native Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews fronts Orleans Avenue, a hard-edged funk band that employs hip-hop beats, rock dynamics and improvisation in a jazz tradition. Shorty began his career as a bandleader at the age of six, and toured internationally for the first time at age 12 before joining Lenny Kravitz’ horn section at the age of 19. He performed on the 56th Annual Grammy Awards with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Mary Lambert, Madonna and Queen Latifah, and the band has made guest appearances on Conan, Leno, Kimmel, Fallon, Arsenio, and Austin City Limits.

It’s been more than 20 years since saxophonist Ben Ellman, bassist Robert Mercurio, drummer Stanton Moore, guitarist Jeff Raines and Hammond organist Rich Vogel began exploring the seemingly limitless musical possibilities born out of their work together as Galactic.  Inspired by legendary acts such as The Meters and Dirty Dozen Brass Band and local legends such as Professor Longhair, the band has developed a unique sound as a result, including: hip hop, electronic, world music, rock, blues and jazz. Joining them on stage this night is vocalist Erica Falls who, as a backup singer, has appeared or recorded with heavyweights from John Fogerty to Irma Thomas to Sting.

Glenn Miller Orchestra
Friday, August 5th at 7:30pm

With its unique jazz sound, the 18-member Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered one of the greatest bands of all time. Under the baton of Music Director/vocalist Nick Hilscher, the consummate entertainers will play and sing selections from the vast Glenn Miller Orchestra library including all of the biggest hits that were the soundtrack of The Greatest Generation — “Moonlight Serenade”, “A String of Pearls”, “Chattanooga Choo-Choo”, “Pennsylvania 6-5000”, “At Last”, “Tuxedo Junction”, “In The Mood”, “Stardust”, “Rhapsody in Blue”, plus some more modern selections arranged and performed in the Miller style.
