USA: JAN KUS QUARTET ALBUM RELEASE TUES., FEB. 23TH 8 PM @ DROM NEW YORK CITY


Jan Kus Quartet’s CD release show for their debut album – Faith
– produced by LeitmotivArts is taking place on February 23rd at New
York City’s club Drom. The album is set for digital release February
17.

The quartet is led by the eclectic Slovenian-born, New York City-based
saxophonist and composer Jan Kus, who has been performing steadily
since 2014 in the NYC area, and internationally since 2007 (Europe,
Puerto Rico, South Korea). Other members of the quartet include Dan
Martínez (upright bass) and Joel Mateo (drums) from Puerto Rico, and
Sean Fitzpatrick (piano) from Queens, NY.

Compositions on the album represent an original eclectic musical
mixture that spans from Modern Jazz to Latin jazz and Soul with
intricate musical landscapes full of exotic rhythms and sophisticated
harmonies. Jan Kus seamlessly meshes his talents as a saxophonist,
composer and arranger to create his original musical expression and
modern sound.

Besides nine original compositions by Jan Kus and two pieces written
by the group’s bassist, Dan Martínez, the album includes refreshing
original arrangements of the jazz classic, “Rhythm a Ning” written
by Thelonious Monk, and the mesmerizing movie soundtrack piece,
“Just A Little Person” (heard in Charlie Kaufman’s New
York:Synecdoche) written by Jon Brion.

The album features guest appearances by Grammy-award acclaimed jazz
greats Antonio Hart and Alex Sipiagin, as well as future household
names in various genres, spanning from modern jazz to Latin jazz, soul
and hip hop Rafal Sarnecki, Carlos Maldonado, Žiga Murko, Mélanie JB
Charles.

The album release show includes an exciting line up of special guests
Jan Kus has pulled together exclusively for this performance, and
enjoy live performances of the music from the album, as well as some
new, never before presented material.

Jan Kus is an internationally recognized New York-based saxophonist
and composer. Besides performing, recording and touring with some of
today’s biggest names in jazz (Alex Sipiagin, Jason Palmer, Andy
Hunter, Jimmy Heath, Chris Potter, David Binney, Linda Oh, Marko
Djordjevic), he performs his original music on a steady basis
throughout the Tri-State Area and Europe, as well as in Asia and the
Carribean, as the leader of his group - Jan Kus Quartet.
