Vox Arcana was formed in the spring of 2008 as an outlet for Tim's original compositions, exploring the dynamic between written thematic material and open improvisation. Since it's inception, Vox has released three recordings of original material, has toured the United States multiple times, and has hosted many workshops across the country.
Much of the inspiration for this music draws on three different schools of experimental music, each forging new paths in the sonic arts during the mid to late twentieth century: The groundbreaking work of the 'New York School' of composers led by John Cage and including Morton Feldman, Earle Brown, Christian Wolff, early pioneers of the 'minimalist' movement which included the composers Terry Riley and La Monte Young, as well as the innovative experimental sounds created by Chicago’s Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians which formed in 1965 and included such luminaries as Muhal Richard Abrams, George Lewis, Leroy Jenkins and Anthony Braxton.
