USA/ROMANIA: Sorin Zlat of Bucharest, Romania, was named the winner of the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition

Sorin Zlat of Bucharest, Romania, was named the winner of the competition, taking home $3,500 and earning a spot on stage at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the festival. Kemuel Roig, a Cuban studying in Miami, finished second and Tom Amend of Wyoming third. Steve Denny and Matt Villinger also competed.
The performers each had to play three songs, including at least one solo song and one original. They were accompanied on stage by stand-up bass player Dennis Marks of the UNF jazz program and drummer Clyde Conner, who plays with the St. Johns River City Band.(...)
