From premier NYC jazz clubs to the underground world of secret speakeasies, Svetlana and The Delancey Five
is a Golden Age-inspired swing band. Playing hard swinging 1920s-'40s
jazz standards as well as charismatic originals, and featuring
Svetlana's vocals backed by the band members' harmonizing and virtuoso
instrumentals - their tunes are so infectious, they'll steal your heart
and sweep you off your feet.
Svetlana and The Delancey Five will be featured in the Times Square Swing Tri-Festa, including highly anticipated Times Square Swing Dance Flash Mob (presently at 2,250 attendees!), Blue Note Jazz Festival performance at B.B. King Blues Club Lucille's featuring Wycliffe Gordon, and as a featured vocalist during Big Band Fridays at the 43 Street Ballroom. Svetlana and The Delancey Five will also be performing at her three year-strong packed residency every Monday night in the Lower East Side's historic speakeasy, The Backroom.
Two years ago, Svetlana and The Delancey Five set
up an impromptu flash mob-style party on a Times Square traffic island
for an unauthorized swing dance. This year, for their third "FlashBomb"
they go legit with permits for a one-hour swing festival--with over
2,250 people having already RSVP'd for the event--and DJ Douglas
McMillan co-hosting the free event. It all takes place in Father Duffy
Square from 7:00 - 8:00pm,
with plans to set up at the foot of the TKTS steps. For dancers there's
surely no more dramatic place to shimmy and shake than the crossroads
of the world, and for tourists to watch this unique NYC happening!
Summer Swing with Svetlana and The Delancey Five featuring special guest Wycliffe Gordon and tap sensation Michela Marino Lerman, and dance performance by Gaby Galore & Her Sugar Shakers! Lucille's is a great place for dinner and a drink and has an open dance floor.
