"Eastern
Hora" is the fourth album by Montreal-based Shtreiml. Spearheaded by
composer and producer Jason Rosenblatt, one of the world's premier
harmonica players, Shtreiml's "Eastern Hora" is a compelling album of
all-original music firmly rooted in the Jewish and Ottoman traditions,
but brimming with hard-rock sensibilities and dextrous improvisational
know-how. Visions of the Bosphorus abound as master of the oud, Ismail
Hakki Fencioglu, weaves his sultry and brilliant magic from track to
track, while the ever melodic trombone playing of Rachel Lemisch offers a
distinctively Balkan punch to the music. Thierry Arsenault (drums) and
Joel Kerr (bass) round out the group's rhythm section with flare, taste
and groove. Shtreiml has spent over a decade performing at concerts,
weddings, festivals and venues in Canada, The U.S. and Europe and has
been labeled "explosive" (Halifax Chronicle Herald) and
"exhilarating"(Rootsworld).
