If your playlist has Nat King Cole, Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald on a loop, you're in for a juicy treat this weekend.
With 14 bands from 11 countries, the four-day Delhi International Jazz Festival, which kicks off on Friday (today) at Nehru Park, has an irresistible line-up.
Vocalists who can sing away your blues and warm the very core of your souls are coming to town, and they're laden with numbers that will echo in your head till long after the event ends.
One such vocalist is Radha Thomas of UNK: The Radha Thomas Ensemble, who is bringing to this music bonanza an eclectic mix of jazz sprinkled with Indian influences. "I grew up listening to jazz and learning Indian music. But rather than swing all the way East towards the Indian side of music, I stayed on the other side of the fence, the Western side," says Thomas.
Then there is Spanish saxophonist Jorge Pardo, who, thanks to his personal style of flamenco jazz, is a pioneer in the field. The musician - recipient of the French Jazz Academy's Best European Musician prize - says: "My music has very instrumental roots, thanks to a long tradition of guitar and flute playing."
The Godfather of Indian Jazz, Louis Banks, will be there too, sharing the stage with Meghalaya-based Toshanbor Nongbet, the new buzzmaker in the music industry.
