Top Canadian artists and musicians come together for one-night only to celebrate the flourishing contemporary, cutting-edge poetry scene in Israel which Rabbi, scholar, artist and translator, Aubrey Glazer has brought to light in his latest book, Mystical Vertigo: Kabbalistic Hebrew Poetry Dancing Cross the Divide of Jewish Thinking.
Glazer will read his lyrical translations of these fresh, edgy poems alongside the original Hebrew and accompanied by equally daring musical improvisations from Toronto’s leading world music performers: Aviva Chernick,Aaron Lightstone, Waleed Abdulhamid, Jeff Wilson, and Sundar Viswanathan joined by Cantor Aaron Bensoussan and Ernie Tollar.
Toronto-native and New York-based Aubrey Glazer brings his unique take on Israeli culture back home joined for a rousing closing set by the two-time Juno-nominated group Jaffa Road who have set some of these mystical, lively poems to music on their albums.
Rabbi Glazer’s latest book and Jaffa Road’s Juno-nominated CDs will be available for sale and signing after the performance.
