This recording gets going at a furious clip. Dewey shows his own uniquely beautiful brand of precisely stated phrases, slurred flights and vocalized exorcisms. The contrast between the two horns is marvelous and exhilarating to hear. David Bond's alto responds to the rhythm section with a noteful harangue that is both fleet and soulful. There's a musical logic in his choice of notes that comes out of the playing situation and his own fertile musical imagination.
The recording shows an impressive interplay around the distinctive stylistic affinities and contrasts of the two horns. A musically cogent Redman-Bond interaction with a spacious expanse of solo girth that glides along against the rhythm teams' exhortations.

This disc features a quartet with Dewey Redman on tenor, David Bond on alto, Mark Helias on bass, and Ed Blackwell on drums. The quartet is burning right from the first note with smokin' solos from Dewey on tenor. The playing is certainly inspired, intense and spirited. The interplay between Dewey & David is a constant joy. They complement each other the way Ornette & Dewey once did.
