The 2013 U.S. Bank Jazz Portland Festival Presented by Alaska Airlines congratulatesEsperanza SpaldingThara Memory and Patricia Barber on winning GRAMMY® Awards during the 55th annual ceremony, held on Sunday, February 10. Festival saxophonists Kenny Garrettand Ravi Coltrane were among the field of nominated artists. KOIN Local 6 carried the pre-recorded telecast at 8:00PM PST from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Esperanza Spalding will join pianist Geri Allen and 2012 GRAMMY® Award-winner Terri Lyne Carrington as part of ACS, a cooperative trio that will make its West Coast premiere and close the festival on Sunday, February 24 at 7:00PM in the Newmark Theatre. Spalding last performed at the festival in 2011 after winning the prestigious GRAMMY® Award for "Best New Artist." This performance has sold out, tickets are no longer available.

Thara Memory will moderate a panel discussion, "Williams Avenue Breakdown" celebrating The Golden Age of Jazz in Portland with Gerald Wilson, Sweet Baby James and Mel Brown on Sunday, February 17 from 6:00 to 7:00PM at Ivories Jazz Lounge. This discussion is free for the public to attend. 

Patricia Barber will perform with guitarist John Kregor, bassist Patrick Mulcahy and drummer Jon Deitmyer on a program titled "Blowin' in from Chicago" on Thursday, February 21 at 7:00PM in theWinningstad Theatre. Tickets for this performance can be purchased here.

Kenny Garrett, who was nominated for two GRAMMY® Awards, was also featured on the national telecast of the awards ceremony performing with Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke, in tribute to the late Dave Brubeck. Garrett will perform with his quintet on Thursday, February 21 at 9:30PM in theWinningstad Theatre. Tickets for this performance can be purchased here

Saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, who last appeared in Portland on August 8 as part of the ongoing PDX Jazz @ Jimmy Mak's series, will be featured on Saturday, February 23 at 7:00PM in the Newmark Theatre with NEA Jazz Master Jack DeJohnette. Tickets for this performance can be purchasedhere

The following Portland musicians who appeared on Spalding's Radio Music Society will appear onMonday, February 18 at Jimmy Mak's at 7:00PM under the direction of 94 year old NEA Jazz Master and Mack Avenue recording artist Gerald Wilson, as part of the PDX All-Star Student Big Band. They include: Benjamin Seacrist, trumpet; Kiran Bosley, trumpet; John Carey, alto saxophone; Aaron Reihs, tenor saxophone; Noah Conrad, trumpet and Sam Seacrist, alto saxophone.
