"Liberty Ship"
A new Quartet formed in sept. 2012 with pianist Aki Rissanen, drummer Olavi Louhivuori and bassisst Antti Lötjönen navigates the deep waters of free expression. Their expression includes brisky storms of avant garde jazz combined with today´s contemporary new music sounds. In the soundscape of the Liberty Ship there´s also good amount of beautiful ambient scenary painting, natural green freshness and emotional storytelling.

their multiple projects and visionary approach to music. The new album, Out Doors (ARC, USA), brings together the two musicians and their distinctive styles of jazz and free form improvisation. Pietilä´s' multi-faceted style of saxophone sound merges with the multiphonics - a massive, almost impossible sound world of the instrument’s capabilities.  Brain Inventory Trio
The new cd "Wall" (Konnex Records, GER) brings us a fusion of styles from jazz and folk music to rock, throwing all preconceptions out the window. With American pianist Michael Jefry Stevens and two Finns, saxophonist Esa Pietilä and cellist Juho Laitinen. In the line-up, the trio's talents span across a multitude of musical genres.The unusual instrumentation of piano, cello (both acoustic and electric) and saxophones opens possibilities for new musical expression. The absence of a rhythm section leaves more room for free expression, with Stevens' original style and piano sound merging with the effects of the electric cello to create a massive, almost orchestral sound world. The result is something very unusual that's neither traditional jazz nor freeform, but something in-between. Listen & see concert videos

 Duo Harvey Sorgen & Esa Pietilä
In July of 2012, drummer Harvey Sorgen and Esa Pietilä started their historic collaboration. Their first tour of the USA included concerts in NYC, Vermont & New Hampshire. This musical encounter was something very new and unique - a surprisingly new organism of sounds and structure. Harvey Sorgen´s intensity coupled with his sense of how to shape sound combine seamlessly with Esa´s vision and gut punching ideas on the saxophone. The duo´s explorations become a singular combination of fire, soft elegance, pure primitive power and flourishing ripeness.
