On Saturday, September 22, twelve of the world's most talented young jazz drummers will compete in the semi-finals of the 2012 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, the most prestigious jazz competition in the world.

The semi-finals will be held at the National Museum of Natural History Baird Auditorium. Tickets are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are unable to attend in person, please watch the semi-finals via a LIVE webcast presented by Smithsonian Associates at www.monkinstitute.org/semifinalslive.

This year's judges include Carl Allen, Brian Blade, Terri Lyne Carrington, Jimmy Cobb, Peter Erskine and Ben Riley.
 
The 2012 competition semifinalists are Dor Herskovits and Noam Israeli (Israel); Kristijan Krajncan (Slovenia); Martin Krümmling and Julian Külpmann (Germany); and Justin Brown, Dustin Kaufman, Abe Lagrimas Jr., Kyle Poole, Jamison Ross, Colin Stranahan and Oscar Suchanek (United States).

The 2012 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Drums Competition is sponsored by Cadillac. All proceeds will support Institute programs in Washington, DC, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and around the world.

Tickets to the Competition Finals on Sunday, September 23 are still available!  Tickets to the Finals event are $50-75 and must be purchased through the Kennedy Center website at www.kennedy-center.org or by calling 202-467-4600.
