Nathalie Gampert-Bajos Distintos (Macudo Music 2012)

In this extraordinary “Bajos Distintos” CD, it can be heard the great jazzy training of this inhabitant of the world, her aesthetics history and her open musical search, fused with Andean rhythms with the mystique of the indefinite, with the forest, with the passionate and intense tempo of Colombian life.

AFRO COLOMBIAN JAZZ is the term used to define the music of NATHALIE GAMPERT, a Swiss bass player and composer, who after years of accompanying innumerable recording artists, offers us her own BAJOS DISTINTOS. An odyssey of diverse rhythms from Colombia’s Caribbean coast, mixed with jazz, and funk. A mixed bag combining musical experiences in Switzerland, Italy, Colombia, France, England and the US, where she developed her amazing talent and versatility.

This daring production includes performances from some of Colombia’s greatest musicians: Alex Martinez, Hugo Candelario, Rafael Sandoval and Roberto Cuao, who bring life to the songs on BAJOS DISTINTOS. Contemporary and ethnic sounds are the result of this modern fusion exploring a variety of musical genres.

Her project BAJOS DISTINTOS has won two composition awards (for “US 5” and “POR EL MAPA”) from the Instituto Distrital de Cultura y Turismo of Colombia. Her work was among top nominees in the I.D.C.T. Jazz, Fusión and World Music festivals in 2004 and 2005 and was chosen by Semana magazine as one of the ten best Colombian CDs in 2005. In 2007 she released in Bogotá the video clip “Los Mares de la Luna” against child labour exploitation. This video has been projected in the 48th International film festival of Cartagena 2008. Also concerts in: the XXIII International Jazz Plaza Festival in Havana, Cuba 2006, Honoured by the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University of Bogotá as a female musician contributor to Jazz, Plaza Bolívar concert for “Bogotá Internacional Espectacular” and Cartagena de Indias Jazz Festival 2012.
