The Cube with Tom Harrell & Bob Mintzer - Quiet yesterday (Abeat 2012)

Abeat
In 2008 the production of "The Cube" (abeat ABJZ052), confirmed Abeat's international reputation as an Italian record label of high artistic and production standards. This new album carries on the spirit of the original project
"The Cube" was a collective project, featuring original compositions by some of Italy's most creative musicians including Dado Moroni (piano), Riccardo Fioravanti (doublebass), Andrea Dulbecco (vibraphone and marimba), Stefano Bagnoli and Enzo Zirilli (drums & percussion),
adding Tom Harrell, who has been a member of the ensemble for several years, and Bob Mintzer, a saxophone player well known in all over the world.
Aside from the two standards on the album, all of the compositions are original. Each of the musicians contributed at least one tune, which speaks to the ideals of creative collaboration and group interplay that are the hallmarks of this project.
The unusual but welcome presence of two drummers is underlined by the addition of rhythmic motifs and grooves that set the stage for soaring themes of extraordinary lyrical impact.
The record introduces a wide variety of styles, musical approaches and sounds with alternating configurations of musicians - from duos to trios to full group pieces and even the addition of an unexpected guest (this is jazz, after all).
Bagnoli Stefano - drums Fioravanti Riccardo - doublebass Zirilli Enzo - drums, percussion Dulbecco Andrea - vibes, marimba Mintzer Bob - tenor sax Harrell Tom - trumpet, flugelhorn Moroni Dado - piano
