USA: Either/Orchestra News + Agachiko, Da Unit, Esquivel

E/O News
what's happening with the Either/Orchestra,
leader Russ Gershon and his other projects

Thursday, May 31: Agachiko
Sally O'Brien's Somerville, 9 pm

Gabrielle Agachiko and her wonderful six-piece band have been working on our debut recording, but we're airing it out at Sally O'Brien's in Union, Square, Somerville.  No cover!

Gabrielle Agachiko, voice; Ken Field, flute; Scott Getchell, trumpet;Russ Gershon, tenor sax;  Sam Davis, guitar; Blake Newman, bass;
Phil Neighbors, drums

"When the band is cooking — when, say, Getchell and Gershon take turns letting loose Coltrane-like cries on one of Agachiko's most soul-baring tunes, "Unlovable" — the effect might remind you a bit of Nina Simone, but also of Abbey Lincoln's work with her then-husband, Max Roach."
–Jon Garelick, Boston Phoenix

A new trio, with bassist Lello Molinari, drummer Phil Neighbors, and Russ Gershon playing alto sax in a band
for the first time in 30 years – and loving it!

down and get funky, too."

And if you happen to be in or around
Bethlehem PA on Sunday, May 27,
Russ will be playing the music of Esquivel
with the amazing
Mr. Ho's Orchestrotica at ArtsQuest

It's a whole day of fun, luau at 4 pm and concert at 7, featuring the 23 piece Orchestrotica playing the Juan Garcia Esquivel's space-age bachelor pad arrangements from the 1950s.  The music is cartoonish, funny, clever and brilliant.

And the event is free!  You can't afford not to go!
